Maybe a move away from the club in the summer is in everyone’s best interest? Unless of course he can find some form again.

Probably will after we sell him.

He's been "out of form" for best part of a calender year now like. I think that's where the issue lies here.

I’ve said it before. I think it’s deeper than that. It takes him too much mental preparation for him to get right frame of mind in order to have a good game. It’s unsustainable to be honest. He’s even admitted himself that he needs to mentally prep himself.

At most you’re only ever going to get bursts of good spells out of him. I think he’ll be one of those players who has a good spell at each new club he joins, then goes off it and get sold to someone who thinks they can get him back to his best, and the cycle continues.

I definitely no longer think he can play CF but I don't knock the decision to play him there. Wissa and Osula are injured and Woltemade needs a rest. That really does just leave Gordon. Not Barnes, cos that's taking him away from LW. Not Joelinton, because just no, and not and academy player, because that's totally fucking stupid.

Continues to let his manager down. Becoming fairly predictable with him and I say that as a fan.

Did some excellent tracking back at around 33mins. Thought he wasn't a noticeable flaw to our game plan tonight, can see why he was picked and thought he gave it a decent shot but he isn't a striker for me. Pope doesn't drop that clanger and we get the draw we would have otherwise deserved then perceptions change I reckon. A win vs PSV and we'll likely go through anyways.

Not only does he look poor, he looks completely disinterested and that's even worse. Trying like fuck and it not happening is acceptable, not looking like he gives a tenth of a fuck is something else totally.

I'd honestly list him in January and see who fancies him - not fucking many would be my guess. He's offering us nothing regardless of where he starts, he's a disengaged fucking waster atm

I was all up for him starting up front today tbh, thought he might have more joy against forrin defenders. But he just looks like a little boy bouncing off heavyweights when he plays centrally.

Agree. He’s not a CF, which I am sure everyone on the team is aware of, but I thought he was fine being played out of his preferred position. Should have laid it off to Barnes when he blasted it into the defender, that’s my only gripe with him. Thought he broke up play decently and had a good effort from a difficult position pushed away by the keeper.

Not having a go at him for tonight, he's not a ST, he's never plays well as one and it's not his fault he's there in the first place.

That said, I echo the sentiments that it's time to move him on. Yes, there is still a good player in there somewhere, but we as a club need to be more ruthless when it comes to selling our players when they're are max value and on a downward trajectory. Get him to fuck before he tanks his value even more, you can tell his heart isn't in it anymore, and tell him to can it with that contrived philosophical nonsense he spurts out to the media, that LinkedIn Bro pish is a lot easier to swallow when you're backing it up on the pitch

One thing I don't really get is that people continue to say he "knows the position" as an argument for playing him there instead of trying literally anything else. I know the position too but I'd be shite playing there at this level.

I'm not convinced it's even an accurate statement to begin with tbh. He knows the position in roughly the same way that Jacob Murphy knows how to play right back.

I miss the Anthony Gordon who used to run his arse off for 90 minutes

Maybe it's just the shit haircut but he gives the impression that he thinks he's way more skillful than he is these days, just floats around instead lacking energy and ferocity.

Just out of curiosity what do you think he did well today? Serious question btw. Not looking for an argument.

His job was to press hard and try and stretch pay with his movement, and he did both of those. When we did break we looked dangerous with our movement. When it was played into feet he was neat and tidy (one of Woltermessi's first actions was to trap an easy ball 10 yards and concede a counter attack). In his role a lot depends on service and there wasn't that much for him.

His anticipation and movement in the box that got him on the end of Tonali's cross and his deflected shot from that led to the goal. Whe he got a chance down the right channel after some good movement he put a good shot in from a difficult angle, forced a save.

If Tonali had rolled him the ball to shoot instead of taking a rather tame left footed effort I reckon there's a good chance he buries it near post, he was set up for it, then the narrative around his game completely changes because in football that's what happens. Had Gordon done what Tonali did everyone would have slated him for being selfish but no-one will mention it about Sandro.

It's not like he tore it up, as I said, he was fine, no more, no less, but there were quite a few worse than Gordon today and he wasn't playing in his proper position.

Yes but you haven't been in and around training sessions and playing at the highest level possible at his age groups for 4-5 years.

Neave would have in all likelihood done little mother than provide a pivot up front and a focus to play off.

But he may just as possibly attacked that header or made the ball just before half time.

Either way he contributes more than Gordon tonight

Hope he’s nowhere near the starting lineup on Saturday, not just because of his poor form either. He can’t handle it against them.

I agree.

You also cannot drop Barnes to accommodate him on the left now as that would be incredibly harsh on Barnes.

Gordon doesn't play that well against Everton anyway so it might not be the worst thing in the world him starting from the bench.

Bit generous on to give him credit for Barnes goal

He's shite at CF.

It's even worse - he doesn't care imo. Not remotely interested in getting involved, watches and waits for the ball come to him like a 10 year old then throws his arms around when someone else gets there first. This cunt's already checked out mentally imo, can't even be fucked to go through the motions
