England’s Anthony Gordon

Subs getting subbed is going to happen more and more with 5 substitutes as managers may need to switch from a defensive to an offensive strategy and then back again

Agreed. Off topic but I don't like all these substitutes being allowed. Changes the nature of the game, and not in a good way for me. To me, part of the sport is seeing how players and teams deal mentally and physically with stamina and tactical ebb and flows. Plus it benefits the rich clubs hugely.

I’m under the impression it was voted through by a majority of prem chairmen. That surprised me, as it really seems like top teams have an advantage with it.

Would be interested to hear the justifications.

Good lad.

That is some shitty attitude. Brushes Ritchie off, then Howe. Needs knocking out of the kid pronto. Luckily Fabian and Lascelles to name but 2 would have no problems obliging

Mad how anyone can watch that and deduce that it’s acceptable behaviour in the circumstances.

He’s 21 and I bet Eddie would rather see him pissed than passive. Did he go a bit too far, sure, but he’s a competitor and clearly expects better of himself. He’ll grow out of it in time and the right leaders are in place to ensure it.

Don’t mind seeing it once, he’s young, clearly an emotional lad with a bit of a chip on his shoulder. Doesn’t make it acceptable, however, if it was to happen again I’d be worried. Our team

spirit and character is everything. Eddie will have such a low tolerance for someone not making decisions for the best of the team. I’m sure we won’t see it again and hopefully he’s got the right people in his ear. There are tons of model pros in the squad so if he doesn’t wise up he’d only have himself to blame

I have no issues with it. The lad has had a big move, struggled to get a lot of minutes and ended up getting frustrated after getting subbed after he came on.

He’ll learn the reason for the sub, and grow from it. No worries about him whatever.

Apart from Real Madrid vs Chelsea - I haven’t seen many examples of a 4th or 5th sun coming on and making a big impact to swing a tie.

It’s most useful when you are 2 or 3 up and want to save a players legs.

I think you've pretty well answered your own point there. It's as much about what it prevents e.g. exhaustion and 'results that never were' as it is game swinging substitutes.

As managers and squads get better adapted to it there's a lot of scope for fielding two different teams in one match, both operating at peak physical intensity. That's fine if someone likes the basketball type approach to tactics and timeouts, but they're very different games and we'd be losing something in the process.

I don’t really buy the “I like the passion, I understand why he was upset” stuff - it was the 94th minute and and the game lasted 94 minutes. It was thick and petulant, but I trust Howe to put it right.

He was questioned massively about his attitude so you would have thought in a new environment, he would be on his best behaviour. Yesterday was not acceptable and he should have apologised to Howe and the team 100%.

I get people saying it's not a big deal but that's only if it doesn't happen again. If it does, then Howe won't take any shit and won't hesitate to throw him to the reserves like he has done with Fraser. To quote the film 'Goal', ' The name on the front of the shirt is more important than the one on the back'.

Let's just hope it's the last we will hear about this and Gordon channels his energy in the right way for the foreseeable future.
