England’s Anthony Gordon

Recommended Posts

He's really off form.

Needs to be left in one position to get back his form and rhythm.

Moving him around while he's struggling is not helping.

At this point might as well just leave him on the left where he did well last season, so he gets his confidence back. And just leave Joelinton on the right.

I’d play Joelinton left, Gordon right.

I'd drop him for Saturday.  He's been poor all season bar the odd game, I don't think he's played that well for England, either.  I know we lose some of our defensive ability taking him out.  But we can't score for shit and we keep leaving Barnes on the bench.  Whose goals and assists have been consistently high for the last however many years.  I don't understand why he isn't deserving of a bit of a run of games and just gets the odd cameo.  When the player/players ahead of him are not contributing at the attacking end of the pitch.

I get the impression the injury he is seemingly playing through might be limiting him, a bit.  So it's not even like it's dropping him.  It's giving him a chance to rest before the Liverpool game.  Where I think he'd get a lot more joy than Palace away.  He's played for NUFC, England or at least been involved with international squads non-stop since the U21 Euros, hasn't he?

We should give Barnes a start, he should be champing at the bit to get his turn. Then it's up to him to take it this time, I don't think he's impressed when he's been given one previously. Gordon will be better for a rest and the realisation that his place isn't guaranteed. It depends on performance week in week out.

He started against Spurs and I seem to remember he looked sharp even before scoring.

He hasn’t been good from the off overall, I agree. It does seem like the game can pass him by at times. But what’s his longest run of starts for us? 3-4 at most? Seems hard to properly judge him.

Like I’ve said numerous times on here. I’m not having Murphy or Almiron starting ahead of him at all like they were earlier in the season and at times last season. Plus it’s not like Gordon has really done much this season, either.

him being on the left or right has no bearing on his ability to run or to kick a ball in a straight line, like. I don't think his head is in it this season at all.

Thought after sitting on bench all Euros, it would get him fired up this season to prove a point.

But seems to done the opposite, where it’s hit his confidence massively.

Maybe not to that extent but if he's natural on the left then what he does is going to be more on instinct whereas he has to think more about what he has to do on the right

It's absolutely baffling how we have both Gordon and Barnes and we didn't play either of them for a single minute in their best position today

Liverpool knew there was something up with this lad when they didn’t take him in the summer.

Might have been one of those times when an unpopular forced sale would have turned out to be a good thing. He's showing very little craft this season, and the non-stop running seems to have disappeared as well.

Or maybes last season was a purple patch like miggy had the season before. Because let's be honest his record at Everton wasn't great and most the time I seen him there he was a headless chicken

He was never good enough for Liverpool even in the summer , I suspect they knew that and that's why they didn't end up signing him. When he's on form he's a very good player but not elite , a lot of his game that makes him good is when he's pressing relentlessly and working hard like last season , he's only half the player when he's not bothering to do that like this season.

Not for me, as he still has the same attributes. Some of his finishing gone down hill (or not improved) so the stats are low, but don’t think it’s close to Miggy purple patch stuff either.

Like for England, he’s shown far more than he has for us, in terms of his performances, so the ability is there, just form and an air of his effort/attitue slightly off,

Probably go as far to say, he’s not the only one, so I don’t think all is rosey on the training ground / behind close doors this season. Something within the club in general is down.

Fucking hell.

Bloody hell. Like Sandro sitting on the bench and he turns out to be our best player.
