England’s Anthony Gordon

hope the goal gives him some confidence, aye.

Don’t necessarily agree that he needs to go on the outside more, but he definitely does need use the overlap more often because he is very predictable.

He just needs to be more purposeful, IMO. Too often he slows it down then it all sort of fizzles out. He runs into a defender, he cuts back and never gets the angle for the shot, he plays a low percentage pass into traffic to a man back to goal etc.

I feel like I’m giving him shit all the while. But we know how great he can be and I’m not seeing it this season.

Thought he had a really good game and so glad he got the goal. When he missed that chance, then quite embarrassingly went down in the box straight after, I felt really down about him. So glad he ended on a high note.

This will sound strange but I thought his finish for his goal was pretty crap.  Yes I know his shot ended in a goal but look at it again.  It was far too close to the keeper and it should have been saved in reality.

We well deserved the point so I'm not complaining but his finishing needs work.

But he also did brilliantly to get a quick shot away which would have surprised the keeper. True it wasn't in the corner.

FWIW I thought he had a mixed game but his ceiling is so high and his desire is so strong that you just have to persevere with him.

You won't get better materials to work with, we just have to make sure he's working on things and not getting distracted.

I actually thought it was possibly one of his best performances tonight.  His finishing is atrocious though.

I disagree. A much better performance than of late but not a great performance. Not much of an attacking threat and often made poor decisions when doing that but done loads of work, winning possession etc.

I wouldn't say he got lucky with the goal, it wasn't in the corner but the move was unexpected and the shot was early and well hit.

If that was against us we'd be slating Pope.

He has some record for goal involvements against the top sides.

By my reckoning out of his 16 league goals for us he's scored 2 against Chelsea, 2 Liverpool, 2 Man Utd, 2 Man City, 2 Spurs and 1 Arsenal.

Definitely a big game player

Or he gets more chances against teams who push on leaving us more room to break which benefits him.

Dreadful from the moment he came on today, offered nothing.

Said it in the Barnes thread. He wants too many touches and always slows the play down, surveying what’s going on and holding onto it for ages. Before eventually coming infield. Rarely uses Hall’s overlap. Although TBF, the one good thing he did, was play a nice ball down the line to him not long after he came on.

We lost all of our attacking threat once he went to that side. Barnes and Hall looked miles better as a pair.

He always speaks so well. Certainly has a maturity beyond his years. He needs to be more consistent this season but as he said himself he’s only 23.

Still maintain Southgate froze him out after he didn’t toe the party line about England’s performances.
