Just give everybody an even playing field, i.e. the same limitations in terms of allowable expenses on squad, infrastructure etc. and let the best team win I say. Which let's be honest, is no longer possible. Our best players will eventually get picked off by the superleague cartel without a significant boost to income. Unfortunately I can't see this playing out in our favour anytime soon.

Nothing's changed except transfer fees and wages have gone up. I guess the answer to that would be at least Jack Walker was a Blackburn local who lived and died for his club. But you are right, the principle is the same, just gone global now, and as far as I'm concerned you are either on the inside or the outside.

In todays game the gap is getting bigger and bigger because like it or not Man City & Newcastle are owned by countries

SAK
5 minutes ago, Palace fan said: Hope you guys revel in your club working its way to the top and earning titles. Nothing like home grown success after all. Limitless spending pre FFP/PSR allowed cartel clubs to gain success and entrench their position. They then brought in rules to say clubs could spend only a percentage of their earnings and then brought in rules to say they could dictate what other clubs could earn from sponsorships. They’ve grouped together to protect their position. I’m not in favour of limitless spending but there should be a cap that any club spend up to. Clubs who want to compete should be able to spend so long as their owners cover the cost I.e. no loans placed on clubs. Somehow I don’t think the PL will want true competition. Ben
54 minutes ago, Checko said: I think the biggest problem with football at the moment is the enourmous disparity in income between a very few teams at the top and the rest. I've seen people saying the Palaces, Bournemouths etc. can't compete because of FFP restrictions on their spending. Bullshit, they can't compete because they have half a billion pounds less income per year that the very top teams. Take all regulations away and you still basically need to be a sovereign wealth funds to compete. Shouldn't be like that. It doesn't make it more fair for everybody. I'm sure I'm in a vast minority here, but I think there need to be more rules to reduce inequality, not more unfettered free marketing, which basically always just leads to market dominance for a handful of entities, even if we hope to be one of those. Clubs are ran by morons, loads of clubs in Europe don't have EPL income and have better sides, at least with Blackburn, Man City and Chelsea they put money back into football, the fact dopey owners squandered it has fuck all to fo with FFP

If the Saudis had bought a different club not one single person on here would be celebrating this. It’s just going to make the gap all the way down the pyramid massive. I hate the way the premier league is starting to become a jump too far for most championship clubs Teams lower down are suffering already though? Forest, Everton and Leicester for example are sides that have tried to be competitive and been fucked by the rules. Even Villa may have to cash in on players after just securing champions league, it's ridiculous. I think a fair few clubs coming up now simply don't bother trying to stay in the division with how things are. Meanwhile Chelsea have spent over £1b and are selling themselves hotels so they can hoover up talent from all over.

Novocastrian
We should be able to spend as much as any other club in the PL. The concept of ‘spend what the club earns’ is pretty new and didn’t exist for well over a century. It’s also totally loaded in favour of clubs who have been making hay for 20-30 years building themselves into an unassailable position with no restrictions. As soon as the Football League was created clubs were bankrolled by rich owners or they were using inducements to import Scottish professionals etc.
