One thing I've noticed about SJP now is how quick it is to boo. Basically any defeat is boos unless it's against one of the real elite sides, Man City or Liverpool. Proper spoilt brat behaviour.

If anyone boos after the game I believe it's acceptable to punch them in the face repeatedly, confiscate their season ticket then march them through the city centre shouting shame.

I don’t think there was a lot, but I thought I heard a few boos.

So many left early, I don’t understand it. I feel like I never meet people who’d admit to doing it but so many do it. Do these people, like me, not love the satisfaction of making other teams fans do it? Can’t really rip the piss out of them when you do it yourself.

different if you’re trying to send a message - eg could get under Bruce and Ashley - but now?

Wasn't this in relation to the ref not allowing us to play on after Sandro picked it up on edge of the box?

I thought nthe above too.  Also at the end a few around me boo'ed but was directed at ref rather than us.  Few others around me clapped Klivert off including myself, just like i did for his dad when he played against us in a friendly a while back.

Imagine the outrage if we had a singing section that dared to question the rest with a statement like that

Be class if wor flags done it...

Absolutely brilliant that tbf, it does make you wonder why some people bother attending games when it almost seems a chore to them.

@Heron Wor flags fancy delivering this message to the club 😂

Any boos whatsoever were utterly pathetic. We've just won 9 games on the bounce including wins at Man Utd, Spurs and Arsenal. The lack of gratitude/perspective is insane.

Same people will sing "We are the loyalist supporters the world has ever seen"

Genuinely think some in the ground are such miserable cunts that they've been holding in this negative energy during the winning run and gleefully let it all out at the first opportunity which was Saturday.

We were bad but the players probably needed a lift and many of the crowd had a pop at every mistake instead. Proper loser mentality to do that when we're in the midst of a brilliant sequence of results, we need less of that in the ground but these people are probably not going anywhere.

I think you just need to look at the comments to see where's it all wrong....

"Genuine fans can't get tickets"

"Too many tourists"

"Too many YouTube fans"

All absolute excuses for shit support by season ticket holders. 36k go week in week out, there's your problem.

Don't get me wrong ballots don't help but it's 99.9% down to season tickets.

I kind of agree, but it's lost cause blaming each other, that will get us nowhere. we need to accept the fact there's 10s of thousands of people who go to the match and have zero intention of contributing to a positive atmosphere.

it's 100% down to the club. they should be making decisions that actively help the atmosphere, and in turn, help the team on the pitch. but the only thing the club are interested in is increasing revenue.

Then why in the past have cup matches frequently had far, far worse support?

It’s a multitude of things. Not ordered in any rank;

- Club not actively looking at ways to improve atmosphere, ie more safe standing or more singing sections across the ground

- A percentage of STH who are inherently miserable, yet see themselves as class fans because they’ve been inherently miserable in the same seat for 3 centuries or whatever shite

- The way tickets are sold and distributed. Loads of issues; allows some who aren’t that arsed access, touts access, people don’t have the (full) liberty of choice of where to sit. That’s obviously improved this season compared to last season’s whitey worthy system but it’s very, very rare that mates who could be vocal together will be able to sit together. Especially younger lads, say aged 16-30.

- Ticket prices. It was minimum 50 quid for the match on Saturday in the lower bowl. Charging that much, as seen with Spurs’ prices and atmosphere, rightly or wrongly brings expectation.

- The size of the family section. It’s huge and next to typically more vocal away fans.

- The only 1 singing section being tucked away in the Strawberry Corner with SJP’s current acoustics.

- Not one area of the ground aside from the corner stood up for a sizeable duration of the game, despite what seems every other PL club having significant areas of the ground that stand.

All of that plus issues that are systemic issues across English football. It’s not just us, but actions could be taken to remedy it.

not to be pedantic, but Strawberry Corner isn't even a singing section. it was only converted to safe standing to avoid health and safety related fines from the Premier League.

persistent standing in that area forced the clubs hand. now, I'd say that could happen to upper Gallowgate as theres a growing number of fans there who stand all game, but it's not visible on the TV cameras, so they won't give a shit

Whey, you know what I mean. The one de facto signing section.

English football clubs and many fans, especially our lot, are massive fannies when it comes to standing. What was that poll or questionnaire where a few answered “oh aye bring safe standing in just as long as it doesn’t affect me”.

aye I know what you mean sorry  just didn't want the club to be given the credit for implementing a singing section when they haven't. all they've done is cover their arses.

You’ve missed the main one out. Football isn’t as exciting as it used to be. Slow build ups at back. Possession kept higher. Tactical fouling. Physical challenges and squaring up almost removed from the game and that’s before we get to VAR killing goal celebrations. That and there is too much football these days rather than the game and 5mins on MOTD your lot.

I also said on this forum must be … 10 years ago when Swansea were popular with hipsters (Rodgers era mainly) and Barcelona (Peps era) and said their style of football of keeping the ball and passing backwards wouldn’t last at SJP as the majority of the crowd too impatient. Probably relevant with other supporters/clubs also if looking at the bigger picture.

Interesting/encouraging/motivating(?) that their hand can be forced.
