We no longer clap in things like "United" and do that shit thing that makes no sense "Toon". If anything it should be "New-cas-tle" but even then it was traditionally 3 claps as far as I am aware.

 

Then we clap along relentlessly to every other song half of which should just be sang without any clapping and fairly slow so that the song carries and not just a mumble of people MCing.

 

Half the ground don't join in with the corner because the corner finish before they themselves have even started.

The match going experience is coloured half by what happens on the pitch and half by who you’re surrounded by. It’s almost impossible not to have multiple cretins near you chatting shit. I’m a positive fan in the ground and only emit the odd momentary grumble, apart from that I mostly sing to back the team or shout shit at the ref / other team. If someone told me to be quieter or clap less I’d honestly just ask them what the fuck they’re doing at a live football match

Wasn't there but loads of similar comments from those who were. Seems our away support is going the same way as our home thesedays. Usually here our fans in defiance at places like anfield where we usually lose but tonight I barely heard a song. Wasn't sure if it was just the tv mics but seemingly not

Loads of comments going around on the away end being shocking and not from usual Twitter bell ends either. Didn't hear our lot once tbh, though tbf there wasn't much to shout about on the pitch.

 

Consensus is that since the checks came in the quality of our away ends has nosedived. Far too many saying it for it not to be true. If the case, why are they so shite when only STH with points can 'legally' purchase and use an away ticket (the transfer system not withstanding)? Seems counterintuitive on the face of it. And don't get me wrong, I fucking resent checks of tickets at football games. Find them draconian as fuck, especially how NUFC do them. But I've been to 4 away games since the checks came in as a non STH (Forest x2, Everton & Arsenal this season) and Forest was canny both times and Arsenal mint but Everton was a bit naff, also probably representative of what was served on the pitch.

 

But I do wonder why it's the case. It can't not be true with the amount of people saying it.

Would love there to be a huge rethink in the summer about ticketing and ensuring the atmosphere at home is enhanced. Couldn’t give a fuck about how “wuh need more NFL and boxing events if wa ganna beat PSR”, our support is fucking dire and we need to sort it out.

Sad state of affairs though. Football in this country has become too commercialised , so the TV dictates what fans do, too sanitised because the media painted every English football fan as a degenerate, pissed up hooligan and we are too stubborn to have us act American (thank fuck).

 

Needs a real big shake up, up and down the country.

It's a bit of a mess all round. Wembley is going to be massive for this sort of thing. And I'm braced for disappointment tbh.

I kna it shouldn't but that's what I mean; I don't know why it's gone that way apart from blaming the way ticketing has changed. I remember the away end at Spurs in the League Cup QF at 4-0 down, no chance of replicating that now. Whether that's a part of expectation increasing, ticketing, what you've said about people fancying it because we're decent or or all of them, I don't know.

I understand the ‘defiance’ support argument, but that comes when you’re shit, and you know you are, so you don’t expect anything. We’re not shit now, and we go into matches with genuine hope that it’ll be better than tonight. So it’s very deflating when it’s not.

There’s definitely less of the radge young lad element due to the checks. Been on buses where we’ve had 3 or 4 to the likes of Wolves and now it’s just 1 or in some cases none. 
 

but this will never change as the club don’t want this demographic. Is Fez still banned from home games despite Northumbria Pooice dropping all charges against him and Liam. They want a different less vocal more submissive fan - there was a canny few half and half scarves at Man City you’d have never seen that a few years ago (in the away end at least).

It's the games like last night were you know you are in for a defeat where away ends were held up by a lot of loyal lads who went to those games who weren't necessarily season ticket holders. There's alot of games this season were away ends were really good, Brentford was none stop for 90 but last night was just the boring season ticket brigade who want to post on social media they at anfield....

It's only going to get worse. Only season ticket holders can attend away games now so you've got the same pool of aging people going away now. They won't sell any new season tickets so there's no fresh blood getting a chance to go. Just going to be a downward spiral.
