Was at Peter Dillon’s in New York watching the game. It was absolutely packed with Newcastle shirts and a good atmosphere with chants throughout. Honestly it put most pubs in Newcastle to shame for atmosphere as it was very positive even when 2-0 down. Fair play to our American fans.

Seriously up and down tonight, although I was in the East Stand so take it with a pinch of salt.

Atmosphere was too influenced by events on the pitch rather than the other way around. Shouldn't be like that for such a big game. Felt like large sections of the crowd gave up on us at 0-0 in the Champions League against Barca, when we were playing pretty well. Baffling.

Agree, sadly. Everyone wanted the same as versus PSG but expectancy has ruined that.

Aye, seen it all. One lad ran on for a selfie and security headlocked him so his pal then ran on the pitch to try and rescue him and then they both ran back into the stands

Both were allowed to go on their merry way, guess there’s little point in banning a Barcelona fan from SJP

Looked like they came from the pitchside block of Barca fans and U19’s in the Milburn

This block was at least a third empty. Probs due to UEFA rules or whatever so that's on them rather than NUFC. Sounded like the attendance was 2 or 300 short of capacity.

Saw a couple of Barca fans, wearing tops, queuing to get in the Milburn, Gallowgate End turnstiles.

I’d been displaced from my ST seat in The Milburn to another seat a block away (and by doing so wasn’t seated next to my mate). This was on the basis that UEFA guests would be taking the seats. There were 3 rows with uefa guests signs on the seats, mine was taken by someone in a top and a half/ half scarf. Quite clearly the club had moved me and sold my ticket at a no doubt very inflated price.

Last time we were put in The Platinum Club so I couldn’t check who was in my seat. I recognised a few others around me who were no doubt in the same position.

There was a bloke on TalkSport (would never normally listen but mate had it on in the car on the way home) who said he normally sits near pitch side, but was moved seats as the club had to give his normal one up to UEFA sponsors.

Said he went down and spoke to the bloke that was sitting there and he told him he’d paid loads for it from a resale site.

Which is probably indicative of what happens to a lot of these tickets. Club forced to give UEFA X amount, who then pass on to sponsors. Person who ends up with ticket thinks ‘I’d rather have X hundred pound, thank you very much’, and they go straight on the reseller sites.

Bobbydazzla’s Trip Advisor review of Leazes Safe Standing

Used to have an ST up there 20 year ago and I can still dance up them stairs like a mountain goat on whizz

Can also still see the action at the Gallowgate and I still don’t wear glasses. What they say about wanking and losing eyesight is lies boys

Real mixed bag of supporters and given the amount of selfies happening I reckon  there were a lot of 1st timers or infrequent visitors

People stood all game (yay) people sang most of the game (yay). No real animosity with the away fans, all very friendly

Couple of confused Asian Barca fans made it all the way up to the back row of the home section and then were ushered into the away end by security

Conclusion - if people stand, even a rag tag bunch of supporters of all ages can make a half decent racket

Yeah, I’ve never really been big on the idea that standing makes a difference to singing, but maybe it does.

Before I more believed that standing sections attract the people who want to sing etc, rather than the position of standing being better.

Just need to look how loud the gallowgate is before a game compared to during it

That’s probably right tbh. My seat didn’t have any uefa reservation sign on it, they were only on the last 3 rows. That suggests that the club might know the game for where some of these tickets end up. I’ve a feeling that a group of Dundee school boys might have had some of these last time, how else do you get 45 tickets together? It’s only been Champions League games as well where this “opportunity” has come about. There’s been no noise about STs being cancelled for those tickets as far as I know.

Compare to a gig. People will sing and get involved if they’re stood up, if they’re sat down they’ll sit and watch

Stand to support and sit to spectate, in simple terms

Addendum to Bobbydazzla's original review

a) - when observed from on high, the lack of either noise or even noticeable physical movement from 50% of the East Stand is something to behold. We should sell Saga the naming rights. Am sure Daren Persson would pay for a few advertising boards round there too.

b) - when observed from on high, the exodus of Pints On 35's is something to behold. Like lemmings rushing to jump off a cliff into a sea of shite fake spanish lager

It was a warm night, under the lights, playing well against one of the giants of world football. And yet people still can't get animated, or resist the pull of El Carlingo

Was up in Level 7 slightly towards the Gallowgate End. I know it's hard to judge from up there but I thought it was shite. Really disappointing. Looking around and quite frankly there was lots of people around me who had no business being there. No emotion, no support for the players, no joining in with chants, the only time they really roused themselves was to get up and walk out when they scored their 2nd.

Bit of a strange crowd last night I thought. Shame so many fans missed out on tickets to some of those people.

I thought the corner was good last night. Had a good group of younguns  in front of me on the stairs who had moved to be in the corner. They weren't the usual Snapchat tiktok brigade

Restored my faith in the next generation

Level 7 in leazes standing I thought was good but it dropped as Barca got more possession.

It was great up there for the AC Milan game a couple of years back. Standing does really make a difference.

Milburn Paddock was generally OK, but was close to Gallowgate so good atmosphere from there

It was a strange atmosphere. The rather naive and hyped expectation that this would be like the PSG or the Barca 3-2 game probably fuelled the atmosphere before kick off and the beginning, but also probably led to it being subdued when reality kicked in. That said it never died off completely and credit to the fans who kept it going throughout.

UEFA freebies and sponsor's allocation's do impact these games but some of the "big game visitors" may have NE postcodes too.

I only get in via the ballot and was in leazes and some woman who I assume was a season ticket holder by how much she was chatting to the people around her the whole game, prodded me in the back when me including everyone else stood up for the Elanga/Gordon chance saying “you don’t need to stand up every time we’re near to scoring, it means people behind can’t see”

Been sat in me granda's seat in the East Stand the last couple of games, there's a bloke who belts out Blaydon Races pre-match then doesn't make a peep all game. Can only assume he wants people to realise he knows the words to Blaydon Races

The East Stand is a special case full stop, you spend about half an hour trying to sing before the enthusiasm for it is drained out of you as you feel the silent tutting from owld cunts from every angle.
