Stifler
I heard Benfica fans a couple of times in the first half in the Gallowgate East corner. I couldn’t hear anything from elsewhere in the ground except for our section and when the Gallowgate end joined in with the SBR chants. I’ve alway praised the back of the Gallowgate for their atmosphere, but it seemed like they were the first fans to leave last night, well before the full time whilst. To be honest it was the same when I had my season ticket there 20 years ago. I sat behind the walkway and the last 10 minutes of every match was just people standing in front of me waiting for an attack to breakdown before sliding down to the concourse, same just before half time as well. People need to cut it out to be honest. People complaining that they can’t get a ticket, then everyone complaining about the price of a ticket, and it’s the same people who arrive late, leave for HT early, come back to the 2nd half late, and leave before FT. Just watch it on TV instead and you can have your snacks, drinks, and pisser all at the ready. On the same topic, can people stop going and getting pelted with drink so that they spend all the match letting off boozy farts that everyone else has to fucking sniff please? You have to drink a serious amount to be like that, just fucking reach a limit for fuck sake.

Rightly or wrongly Benfica in stage 1 of the Champions League doesn't have enough riding on it, particularly when the team isn't up to the levels we know it's capable of yet. Was thinking that - it’ll be the first time he’s ever played us where we’re not the underdog.

The atmosphere was decent last night but better V Barcelona and was better V Liverpool and Arsenal than Wolves. Mourinho experienced it last night as a manager of a team in a game we were largely expected to win with little rivalry. Last night the atmosphere got better as the game went on as we turned it on a bit on the pitch. I thought it was poor v Barcelona tbh (outside the first 10 mins) but then again I was in Level 7 for that one so it's almost impossible to judge as you're so detached from the rest of the ground. bobbydazzla
I don’t think anyone sensible is expecting a 10/10 lift the roof off electric atmosphere at every match, that just isn’t going to happen. Trying to compare every game to PSG or Arsenal cup semi final is just pointless. But currently we’ve got a small section in the Corner where a few thousand who want to stand, sing and make an effort to create noise are gathered. And anywhere else in the stadium it’s completely unpredictable and often very quiet. Add loads more safe standing, make it clear that safe standing also means singing section. Base level atmosphere improves. Job done. What’s not to like about that ? Edited October 22, 2025 by bobbydazzla

It'll be more corporate and higher tickets prices. I'm pretty sure Everton, with their shiny new stadium, barely released many new season tickets. Loads just went to corporate. Atmosphere at PL football grounds is dying and you wont ever get it back in afraid. Yep, and it's why they're looking at a capacity that most don't think is quite enough. You need a reserve customer base desperate to go to matches in order to keep prices high, the only chance we have of getting tickets at lower prices and for everyone to get in is if we have a stadium capacity that meets or exceeds demand, and from the club's perspective doing that doesn't make sense financially and isn't a good look for 'the brand' when there are less-attended matches with gaps in the crowd. Work with the 3/4k oldies in the middle tier who wouldn't be up for it about relocating to the Leazes (identical view) and offer their space to the younger fans up in Level 7 who are getting past 18 years of age and have outgrown the family enclosure. Noticed last night most of the front and upper tier spend plenty of time up off their seats anyway so no great upheaval for them, but of course offer anyone not up for it an alternative seat at the same price. I'm not saying it's an instant fix but it would improve things dramatically I'd like to think.

If my experience of the over 18s in the family section was anything to by last night, getting them all together in one place may not be a bad idea as they seem to spend most of the match texting their mates presumably in other parts of the ground. Tbf after having had to sit up there many times before you are so far away from the action it's so easy to get distracted! Get the younger fans down nearer the pitch where you get a more authentic experience and they'll get more involved I'm sure. When I'm up in L7 I find myself looking around the ground, or around the city, or at all the lights on a night game. When you're up there watching a load of dots dashing about I just find it hard to get fully emerged in it all.

Having spent over 10yrs Middle tier behind the goal Gallowgate I wouldn't swap for where I am now.
2wheeler
Was in level 4 pretty much in line with the goal posts, and other than a couple of times the Benfica fans were all I could hear, sounded extremely quiet elsewhere.

NUFC91
I think you need supporters trust, supporters club and wor flags to get together and put a proposition to club. More safe standing and seat relocations for those who don't stand. I honestly think add another lot in Leazes and extend round from strawberry corner. I think It's worth those 3 groups getting together, it's probably best hope we have of more standing.

Agreed, the original standing in Strawberry corner was a trial so interesting to know why nothing was further communicated. Can we have a flag @Heron "more safe standing please"
