The booing of the knee on Saturday was rank, never heard it like that before. The Reform effect?

My mate turned around to people booing behind us and just called them out as racist cunts directly. Wish I’d done the same. I hate getting drawn into shit with other fans as I just want to focus on the game itself but fuck me, it’s grim as fuck in the stands these days

It was loud in the corner too, I felt pretty conspicuous clapping.

I was in the standing section of the Gallowgate corner and apart from me and my mate there were very few others clapping

It really is.

For context, I have friends with all sorts of different political, cultural views. I know a couple of lads that are lovely people but waaaaay too far gone down the Farage/Yaxley-Lennon rabbithole. Everything from Brexit, to "climate change is a scam", from "Maccabi fans have been banned due to anti-semitism" to Farage being the country's saviour in waiting. Unsurprisingly both these lads don't agree with footballers taking the knee because "politics shouldn't mix with sport" etc etc.

Now even these lads are capable of standing silently without booing players taking the knee because they agree that it's a stupid, divisive act that doesn't help anyone and will only serve to piss the players off and cause arguments between fans on a matchday when we really should be united and getting behind the team. Also, they have enough sense to realise they wouldn't like it (quite rightly) if anyone booed remembrance sunday commemorations.

I post the above to give the context that it's only the real knuckle-dragging knackers that are actively booing it.

Is it just my impression or there aren't many Blacks in your fan base? I mean compared to other English fan bases where I see a lot of Blacks and Asians.

In comparison, you’re probably right, but it’s representative of the north east as an area, which is far less ethnically diverse than the majority of other areas in the country (especially in and around London).

*also probably a bit dodgy to refer to black people as ‘blacks’, but I’m sure most people will appreciate English isn’t you’re first language.

Is any one still in the trust? Just wondering if they have pushed club on safe standing at all? I can remember in the past someone said they took it to club?

You're fighting a losing battle with this imo mate

There just isnt the hunger in our fanbase for more standing or singing sections

I can understand indifference to the kneeling before a match, but being vocally hostile towards it seems like a weird hill to die on.

For me, it's a clear sign of how far TalkTV, GB News, Farage and Yaxley-Lennon have taken over the political discourse. I really worry about the direction our country is going.

It's not just your problem. Hungary is already a fascist country, we and Poland are slowly becoming so, and in Germany the far right is growing dramatically. You and France are the safest, maybe.

The right is on the rise here as well mate, characterised  by white middle aged under-achievers who stick flags on lampposts and blame their own failures on migrant boats

That’s where I was too

Ah nice, it’s generally one of the best places to be in the stadium but I still think about 70% of people in the standing area make fuck all noise and about 10% of them only do to complain. I get the arguments for more standing singing sections and I’m absolutely behind that but I don’t see a situation where we’ll ever have the majority getting involved in that section, let alone the whole ground

One birthday in the early 90’s when I was about 13 or 14 I asked my mam & dad if my present that year could be Dorien deflowering me.

They got me a brown leather jacket from a shop near the Grainger Market instead.

Odd taste in women even then Bobby.

I’ve recounted the specific incidents on here in the past but on the rare occasions in my life that I’ve encountered vicious racism in its most disgusting and vocal form it’s been following NUFC away in the 2000’s and also at the 2023 cup final.

There are some utter vermin in our support.

It took France an unlikely alliance that was bound to implode to keep the far right at bay last round. Le Pen did nothing but try to gild the turd of her dad's fascist party, but the party has seen levels of popularity not seen when her father was the face of it. Far-right populism and what Eco described as Ur-Fascism is sadly gaining momentum in much of the democratic world.

I disagree like, I feel like more people would rather stand. I know I'd rather stand and is rather sing, but there's no chance of me doing that unless others around me are doing it.

I feel like there's plenty of people in the same boat, that would stand if given the choice. I don't have anything to back this up with though and maybe I'm misreading the general appetite for it.

I think it's more people positioning it to club, I think you'd get a canny response but has to be driven by trust, supporters club wor flags as combined effort or will just not get taking seriously

There’s definitely enough people who want to sing, there’s just not a critical mass in any area to keep the songs going.

And the speed of the songs makes it almost impossible, as I’m always saying.
