Vedder
As others have said, the atmosphere was better than feared but still not great. Fair play to the corner for really trying to lift things. For all I think I'd love to get a season ticket, not sure I'd take one if it wasn't in the corner, or the Gallowgate at a stretch. The lack of atmosphere is soul destroying and I always feel awkward thinking I'm part of the problem tonight, but I'm not one to sing loudly on my own. Some people, and I mean a lot of people really, pay to go in there and sit in pure silence for 90 odd minutes. What enjoyment do they get? And they'll be the knackers "not bothered" about getting to a semi final and they'll also be the ones who left after Miley scored. Imagine Fulham equalised, they'd have basically missed the penalties. I said yesterday and stand by it, turning into a bunch of self-entitled, spoilt fans! TBG
Big game on Saturday for the hand shakers. Researchers reckon they may have to leave on the 60th minute mark to allow enough time to wish those around them a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, moan about Elanga (he wasn't brought on) and how we've been bad all game (there's 30 minutes plus extra time still to go)

I’d say that’s the best they’ve ever been when coming up here. Brought a few more than I anticipated too. Expected sub-1k but was more like 1.5k. bobbydazzla
I’ve run a few questions through ChatDazzla, the internets best generative artificial intelligence twatbot… Is the atmosphere good at St James’ Park currently – no Will it ever be like it was in the 70’s and 80’s – no Can it be better than it was between the 1990’s and now – yes How – introduce large amounts of safe standing, like other clubs have already done Will that be enough - no What else would be needed – designate the standing sections to be singing areas Do singing areas at St James’ Park work – yes, they do currently and have in the past Does creating new singing and standing areas mean some people with season tickets might have to move seats – yes Will they complain about that – some will, yes Why – because they think they’re more important than the greater good of the club What are NUFC doing to embrace the potential of safe standing and singing sections – fuck all Why – fuck knaaz If you want, I can also share some insight into why some fans at St James’ Park only turn up to piss and moan or sit in silence. llcoolc157
Until you have a singing end next to away fans, with the exception of a few games, we’ll struggle to create the best atmosphere… simple as that… Whilst the gallowgate corner certainly do their best I’m afraid it doesn’t have a massive impact up on level 7 and therefore the away fans too… hence the reason most churn out the ‘where’s you famous atmosphere’ shite… fans getting at each other, obviously not physically, generates more noise and emotion and has a positive knock on effect around the rest of the stadium.. That said I’ve been to most games since the early 80’s and have experienced my fair share of shite atmosphere over the years…
Chicken Dancer
One thing I wished for years is that we could - as fans - collectively agree to stand in the Gallowgate in 'big' games. Naturally the club would never encourage it, but it's like an unwritten rule at some clubs. You see it at Villa, Man Utd, Liverpool, Leeds and probably a lot more, when there is a big game the fans are standing in their main stands (Kop/Stretford/Holte ends). Even back when I first got my ticket in the early 00s we never stood for derby games or anything like that. The only time I experienced it consistently (before I sit where I do now towards the back of the Gallowgate) was in the L7 corner. FWIW I've never been in the Strawberry Corner/safe standing areas of the stadium. Not sure why it is so, but standing improves atmosphere tenfold. Into the 80's and it was very tribal, the man in the street could queue for hours but he had a chance of getting in and he did, same at the away matches, we took thousand and they were all proper lads, tartan scarfs the lot.We drank, we sung, we all got tickets, its was an amazing era. Fast forward now, its full of middle aged (im 57) wanna be millionaires who go for the status, corporate,no banter or singing as it seems not cool to sing now. Its in the fans, you see it every now and then, but its tough to get it out these days, no idea why, jut sing ya fucking heart out man. The football never ever had to get the fans going, it 100% has to now, its changed so much. People need to lose their inhibitions and remember they are part of a tribe ffs. Until we give the man in the street the chance to get in home and away this is how football has evolved, mute. Just my take on SJP, i last went 18 months ago. Feeling you young un 😉 (…by a year). The simple reason being the average age of the middle tier is probably around 60 these days. A section holding around 4k people in our so called "home" end and it's full of OAPs sucking the life out the place. Front and Upper seems a bit more youthful and lively, just a bit, but in truth it's a non starter. I wagered it on hwre at the time but I got told to sit down in the Gallowgate last season as I was stood up getting ready to watch us take a penalty You look at just about every PL ground and fans stand behind at least one of the goals, in the case of Man Utd, Leeds, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs, West Ham (probably just so they can see a bit better tbf) and Villa it's both, but off the top of my head there's only us and Bournemouth who are sat down behind both goals. Chelsea on Saturday. 4th home game in a row I've never entered the ballot. Until this season I'd entered evey one unless I was on holiday or knew I wouldn't be able to get off work. The way I see it is if there's no atmosphere anyway I'll save my 60 quid and watch it on the box. And that's exactly what I'll be doing. Big River
it's canny depressing being at the back of the gallowgate and just seeing thousands of motionless heads below you just sitting there the malaise is definitely creeping its way up the stand n'all. at this rate we'll all be sitting down next season, the only noise generation coming from a quiet complaint to the person next to you. Wallsendmag
You get a great perspective of the problem right at the back of the Gallowgate. All those motionless dummies sat below you in the middle tier all the way round to the NW corner, then it seems to pick up down at the front and then you have the corner who try their best. The psychological and cultural explanation is simple: Standing shifts people from audience mode to group member mode. It boosts energy, lowers inhibition, and creates the social signals that say, “Join in.” Sitting naturally puts the body into a more passive, “observer” mode. When you stand, you can see others participating, which creates social proof: “Everyone else is singing—so it’s okay if I do too.” Sitting often signals “watch quietly,” while standing signals “participate.” In a standing crowd, individual behaviour blends into the group. When seated, people feel more individually visible and judged—especially if others nearby stay quiet. The brain has learned: standing = interact; sitting = consume.
