Tbf must’ve been a miserable watch for PSV fans.

Seemed to be quite a lot of them in home end. Weren’t subtle.

Hard to keep quiet when your defence does that

Not really tbh. I left straight on FT so haven't really spoken to anyone but you could see them looking across at the NW corner when the noise was bouncing from the SE corner and Gallowgate when they were going for it as well so it was catching their attention. It also quietens the away fans down. You could see it. They know from up there they can't have much of an impact on the overall atmosphere  when most of the ground is in full swing so they just stand back and watch.

Got to say I've been in so many away ends all over England, and in Europe watching NUFC and PSV and tonight was up there. Most recently it absolutely pissed on Juventus, Arsenal and Liverpool I did with PSV last calendar year and Leverkusen last month with NUFC for outright noise. None of them came close.

There's something to work on. It's certainly not the waste of time trying to work on the atmosphere as I was starting to suspect it would be. A standing section next to the away fans would be a game changer. Basically just reintroduce the old Leazes Corner!

Good to hear

Seems so called professional noiseman Wallsendmag only contributes to shit ends regardless of who the rest of the people are supporting. Interesting.

Yeah strangely muted, supposed their team got dog walked a bit but surprised how quiet they were. Better than the Gallic drone of PSG fans that never stopped but didn’t correspond to a thing that happened on the pitch. We didn’t really let PSV have any to sing about I suppose.

Fyernoord in ‘02 came and sang in English the whole game including singing ‘small town in Sunderland’ at us  Breda were very rowdy as well iirc.

Feyenoord are cunts.

Pre-match and the first five minutes I thought PSV were quite loud, but the early goal seemed to completely kill them.

And as has been said, if you barely have a shot it can be difficult to drum up anything other than defiance noise (which they didn’t manage either).

Gallowgate West Corner.

Stood up all game.

Decent all night. Plenty of singing and positive encouragement. Don’t think I heard a single negative comment about any of our players.

Was genuinely starting to wonder if someone (my money was on Tindall) had spiked the free pints with MDMA.

I must’ve been very close to you, five rows from the top. Thought for a moment at the start that I could stand all game but that didn’t happen. Was certainly a very positive crowd and loved the backing Elanga got.

Get in the back row and you can stand all game, which means the row in front will often stand too.

I'm of the belief it would be better if they stay in level 7, but don't have kids and families sat next to them.

I think so and have advocated for this for years. On top of which it's unsporting and cowardly to have them all the way up there.

I heard Chris Waugh say that there has been much talk behind the scenes about the flat atmospheres lately and how to improve them and thats why they came up with the decision to give fans a free pint. It's mad really when all they have to do is come on here and read this thread and they could have it sorted by the beginning of next season.

At PSV had 2 behind me who spent nearly all match talking about anything but football and a bloke nearby who belted out Suburbia by the Pet Shop Boys at half time but didn’t join in any of the singing during the game - weird.

Where were you sat? I had the same

situation in middle of gallowgate. Two guys yapped on literally the entire game about anything except the match. Bloke next to me left or moved at half time, he must have been sick of it.

I try my best not to chat too much at the match. It's always about the game but it must still wind people up.

Especially when I'm on my own and basically talking to myself

Have considered wearing my AirPods to block out annoying people nearby but I know that would be weird.

LWC its always a strange mixture of regulars, one offs and those who come and go depending on the ballot. There’s a small core of singers but generally the atmosphere is shite.

It could possibly help, but as others have said, who you place next to them has more of an impact.

We’re never going to be allowed to have them pitchside unless the current safety regulations change, so bit of a moot point anyway.

It's usually my preferred place because it's cheap and so close to the premium seat view. But quite rare that any songs get going really.

I barely even talk to my lad while the match is going on  He might get a "do you want owt at half-time" and "do you want to go straight home or hang around for a bit after" during breaks in play

Least the club have noticed it’s flat. There’s a simple fix make the whole Gallowgate safe standing, or Leazes level 7 corner and the corner below.

Think making the level 7 corner and below safe standing would generate a great atmosphere next to the away fans.

I think it would be better if the home and away standing was in the same end of the ground i.e Leazes but very unlikely that the non-singing, sit-downers would want to move unless it meant quicker egress at the 35 and 80 minute point.
