Drum or no drum our lot turned up expecting to win and just pissed and moaned when we didn't. It was one of the most disappointing atmospheres I can ever remember considering the circumstances. I could only tell by way of TV but I think this is spot on. I think I even expected us to win a little myself and I’m usually level headed. Did feel a bit like people were waiting for it to catch fire rather than the atmosphere driving the team. Dortmund did well to keep it quiet right enough, but we’re not really a crowd that keeps up the noise when things aren’t going our way.
gbandit
People just don’t seem to get that being a fan in the ground is an interactive experience, how you react to players influences how they react on the pitch and vice versa. It also completely changes your experience of the match, you’re more connected to it. It’s not like everyone needs to go full pelt all match long but ideally most people would. And the negativity is so frustrating, it’s ok to let out a gasp of disappointment but don’t follow it up with stuff about how shit the players are. Lad behind me was laying into Burn and Longstaff all match, was ridiculous
Kanj
The only needing laying into was that melt of a referee.
NUFC91
Amount of people near me with tickets who honestly couldnt find their seats, sat with half and half scarfs, how are these getting tickets.
NUFC91
We need mass seat moves, 8k like minded fans together. Hopefully we can make it happen but probably get moaning fuckers complaining as pee usual

Doctor Zaius
Unlimited membership is an issue. "Oh Newcastle are playing PSG and Dortmund, I fancy that, I'll sign up and join the ballot" "Oh I'd like to a see a semi final, I'll sign up for membership and join the ballot" Membership should have went off sale as soon as a ball was kicked this season. You knew whether you were going to watch a game or not before the season started, not just because we drew Dortmund. The club has done fuck all for touting too but made it worse. If you really must buy off a tout, and I don't really blame people for it, I've done it before, do everyone a favour and report whoever's name is on the ticket post match. Dunno if its me just looking at it from a geet selfish POV but it feels like those are the sort of people the club wants getting tickets whereas non-ST holders who've been going to most games for years they couldn't give a shit about. All about "growing the fanbase". None of the issues from this season were happening last season AFAIK. Should speak volumes to the club but I honestly think they'll just dig their heels in; don't think they give a toss.
bobbydazzla
Might have been answered elsewhere but how come there was there a sizeable section of Dortmund down the front of the Milburn all waving scarves and celebrating when they scored Edited October 26, 2023 by bobbydazzla

jack j
It's easy to blame these people. But there's 30+ thousand season ticket holders in there. That's the big majority. Why aren't they creating the noise?

It's fair enough questioning the ticketing policy and how to get the people who really care in, but I don't think these lack of atmospheres can really be blamed on that. wormy
Yeah I find it strange that there seem to a number talking as if shite atmosphere hasn't been a problem before this season. Granted there wasn't previously as much on pitch success to rally behind but I still came away from matches many a time thinking how shite the bulk of our fans had been. Lush Vlad
I guess it was because of how up for it everyone was against PSG from the first tackle. I know the goals helped in the end. But I don’t think it is unreasonable to expect something at least similar to that. FWIW, it sounded ok on the TV at times first half. But after they scored. You only heard them and their fucking annoying drum. Save for the odd COOOOMMMMEEEE OOOONNNNN when we won a corner or something. Followed by silence 5 seconds later. There needs to be a fuss kicked up about the seating arrangements and the club need to know fans are frustrated they can’t generate an atmosphere they want. Imo an absolute must is a second singing section near the away fans. Interaction with them is a big way to get the atmospheres going.

Part of the problem this season is that the areas of the ground that were making an effort to create noise have been being diluted. Off the top of my head: There's primary school aged kids being allocated seats in Gallowgate safe standing Seated blocks adjacent to safe standing where people stood and created loads of noise have had letters from the club telling them to sit down or be banned Lads were gathering together in the Leazes and forming a little singing section last season, they now can't get seats together cos of the ballot We were seeing some positive signs, but PSG aside, this season has been shite compared to last season
TBG
Bit shit to put it on the Ballot goers, like. Aye I'm not a fan of the system, and yes there is 'day trippers' (not that there never has been) but it's a bit harsh to swing between 'Atmosphere was incredible. Credit to all those fans' to 'Atmosphere was shit. Fucking day trippers'. Edited October 26, 2023 by TBG

Every single person I know who's been successful in the ballot is a died in the wool, whole hearted supporter. The simple fact is this mythical super atmosphere scenario is exactly that, a myth. Absolutely fantastic when they're all "on it" but, like most home crowds, they need a goal, a tackle, a ref fuck up etc etc. I used to go all the time, I've heard silence before ? Perhaps some supporters are still mired on the Ashley misery and have been so groomed by mediocrity they can't adjust. Clearly, when the teams on fire, the crowds on fire. RR15
With or without a drum, the Germans would've drowned us out all evening - agree with what's been previously said - a larger section of the ground dedicated to people who wish to create an atmosphere is very much needed. Sat in the Leazes corner (East Stand) and at around 80 minutes people starting heading towards the exit.
NUFC91
It's because there is no "end" anymore. Needs to be all lads sit in one area, simple as that. That is how its done in Europe and used to be here
