Surgically replaced his balls and cock with the trophy after Bruno ended him downstairs in the second half

That's what redemption looks like - he's been a man on a mission this season.

Wonder which technique he goes with for tying his laces. Surely loop swoop and pull but you just never know these days.

It won't show up in the stats but his off the ball defensive work was insane, probably the best covering/tracking/cutting off passing lanes/pressuring performance I've seen in a Newcastle shirt. Coupled with Big Joe and Bruno it was the perfect assortment to deal with their midfield.

He was pretty spiffy on the ball too when he fancied stretching his legs past Van Dick or Gravenberk. It doesn't get much better for the role he was tasked with.

He has a ridiculous in game mentality/temperament. Just so completely in control.

His reading of the game, both on the pitch and the context, is crazy for such a young player. And he combines it with running around like a madman too.

Not impressed and not inclined to be sympathetic. Remind me why I'm supposed to like him?

It's a bigger turnaround than Joelinton all things considered.

Hmm, I wouldn't say so. The ban was obviously a setback and a low point but I never had any doubt he was a class player and would come good. Partly because he's fundamentally a great player and partly because of how well NUFC managed the situation.

I absolutely loved that in the last half an hour in particular he left a shoulder in on every tackle. Nothing heavy just like almost an irritating nudge. Was never gonna get done for it but did it after every single interaction with them. Letting them know he was there. Was mint.

It's wasn't about his playing quality, but the situation nearly flattened the club's resurgence - financially, spiritually and competitively. It suddenly put us staring down the barrel, it was more than an unsuited player being signed in a dodgy deal and mishandled by an incompetent arsehole. The club was screwed whether we signed Joelinton as a striker or not.

But like I say, Tonali (and the club) has done everything he could control right since then so happy to leave that one buried.

Glad we got him over Szoboslai

Much better suited to us - if we had gotten Szob - it would have meant Bruno at 6 - not his best position

Tonali unlocks Bruno so we get the best of both worlds
