Just can’t get my head around why him/his agent released this statement at this point in the season

It’s the ideal time, the competent teams are lining up their summer moves now and he’s letting them know he’s interested.

At least we should theoretically have money and time to get a replacement

We already have his replacement in Miley. We'll use the cash for Miley's replacement, hopefully a proper no nonsense DM to break up attacks.

You can do that quietly, talking to the Clubs, rather than spaffing shite all over the media.  Suggests his agents contact book is lacking.

We're not Real Madrid, players are going to leave us, especially our best ones. And the uncomfortable truth is most of our best ones join us with the hope of using uds as a stepping stone.

The likelihood of us getting to the point of Real Madrid and players across the world dreaming about playing for us is about as far away as Rochdale becoming perennial Premier League champions.

Annoyance or upset over a player leaving to go to a bigger club is baffling to me. Even if PIF were going both barrells behind the scenes with stadium, training ground, etc etc, the peak career period of a player is about 5 years. It's not realistic to expect players to stick around for the long haul if we're not actively competing at the sharp end on all fronts which is what elite players want.

It is what it is. If we miss out on Champions League football, these are the scenarios you have to deal with. No club is necessarily immune to it.

As long as we get a good fee, nothing else we can hope for really.

On last summer’s evidence it doesn’t seem to matter if we make the CL or not.

You would hope that Tonali was a bit different given how the club managed his betting ban and fans stuck by him. He’s even admitted he owes the club/fans big time for that

I don't disagree, I would have hoped that too. It does make his particular agitation around a move that much more gutting.

I have to somewhat put the form down to the coaching staff. Our midfield when we aren’t able to press has been shockingly poor. Mid table teams with half the wages make far better use of the ball. It’s a been a problem for a long time now (aside from when the press is working). We’ve not been able to get any fluidity in the midfield 3 and it’s been costing us for a while. If I was Tonali I may well think my game won’t improve from here, I only have 6-7 more years, do I want to stagnate on 150k or improve and get paid double. We sold him a project and the board is a shambles. Off the pitch we are a bottom half club. The players have been poor but the same way I don’t blame England for the Southgate performances, I find it hard to blame the players…except for the ridiculous passing and lack of composure at times, but again staff needs to sort it.

Maybe they tried to and it went wrong. But on the other hand, why should they care? If this is all true then Tonali clearly hasn’t formed a connection with Newcastle, so what does he lose by making it public?

Ffs people need to grow up, Sandro is the least of our problems.

Just the defensive work he does makes him an obvious starter.

Fans at times, as soon as a player are rumored away they start to build this illusion that he is crap and it’s good riddance.

Has he been in the best form lately, no. Is he a excellent player, yes.

I've no real issue with him wanting to leave in the summer as long as the fee is right, it's more his cunt agent coming out with this shite during the season and in particular during a time when we're going through a bad run of results and the mood already isn't good.

Tonali is an exceptional talent on his day, he deserves to be at a club competing regularly for the top honours and we're unfortunately not there yet so in my mind he was always a player we'd enjoy for 2 or 3 seasons before cashing in. Just wish his agent would shut the fuck up.

Of the interested clubs, surely City is the most likely?

If he wants grantees Champions League football and the chance to win trophies regularly, it rules Chelsea out.

Always thought he might want to move back to Italy, but unless they chuck some players into the mix, Juve can't afford him.

Let's be honest it's nothing to do with Champions League, wanting to win things or playing for the best team possible, it's a cattle auction on who can line the pockets faster and quicker and we can't match the "big boys" on wages that's the bottom line. It's a short career, you can't blame the players for wanting to make as much as they can to set themselves up for the rest of their lives.

Before we vilify and ostracise Sandro, let's see what happens over the summer, also, let's not rewrite history, he was instrumental in getting us into the Champions League last season.

My mate who's pretty knowledgeable about Italian football reckons Juventus are minted. If he goes, he can fuck off back there, the baby toothed, Wetherspoon regular tossa.

On a side note it's an absolute load of bollocks when a player says " they want to play in the champions league ". They will go to any club that pays them the most money regardless of if they are in the champions league .

I don’t begrudge him wanting a move away. He's been a good to excellent player for us the past two seasons, never doubted his work rate or commitment. I don’t think he owes us anything in that sense.

I do think he, of all people, owes us the courtesy of not pulling an Isak, though, given how the club and fans stood by him that first year. Gonna be really fucked off if he downs tools and acts like a whiny punk to force a move away.

Exactly this. When players come out with "I want to win trophies", I just shout "piss off man, it's for the wonga".
