People take this shit way too personally. He was outstanding for us up until the last 3/4 months of his time with us. He's an elite player and we're not yet, we might never be.

He's going into his prime years and most of the top clubs would want him when we're not likely to even be playing in Europe next season.

But players the class of Sandro were the type I thought I'd never see pull on the black and white again. Lets not usher them out the door.

He’s at that age and profile where he’s going to want a very big contract and sadly, we just can’t give them what they want yet. Hopefully we’ve learned from Isak and hopefully, Tonali has at least give us a few months heads up. Best thing we can hope for is a big fee and money reinvested sensibly this time. The continuing emergence of Miley and the upturn in Ramsey could make this one slightly easier to swallow

Best thing we can do is boo him relentlessly

We aren't really like that as a club unless a player openly insults us. More chance we'll end up singing his song to show him what he's giving up.

What upturn in Ramsey?

The inevitable consequence of the club bending the knee to Liverpool.

How did we bend the knee? The player refused to play for us and we took £130million off them.

And what's it got to do with Tonali? I'd he not considering his options if we don't sell Isak to Liverpool?

We already have his replacement in Miley. We'll use the cash for Miley's replacement, hopefully a proper no nonsense DM to break up attacks.

Welcome to Newcastle Fabien Schar.

Let's be honest it's nothing to do with Champions League, wanting to win things or playing for the best team possible, it's a cattle auction on who can line the pockets faster and quicker and we can't match the "big boys" on wages that's the bottom line. It's a short career, you can't blame the players for wanting to make as much as they can to set themselves up for the rest of their lives.

Before we vilify and ostracise Sandro, let's see what happens over the summer, also, let's not rewrite history, he was instrumental in getting us into the Champions League last season.

Not seen anyone suggest otherwise to be fair.

Part of the frustration is that he's been unable to recapture that form (which could be for a variety of reasons).

I agree with you on a lot of things, but don't think we'll ever see eye to eye on this one. We've discussed before. [emoji38]

The club's response means having a four year contract, a five year contract, or a six year contract with a purple is effectively worthless. A cartel club just needs to flash their wallet, and there is a proven blueprint to agitate successfully for a move.

The only long-term vision of success, I can think of, which can withstand that squad-building vulnerability is a) we have a squad full of people as committed to Newcastle as Dan Burn or b) PSR gets scrapped. Neither feels realistic.

Yes we got a lot of money, but this season has been an almost perfect illustration of the false economy of transfer fees. (It's all about wages. £130m does not provide replacement value for a star, because you can't afford a new star's wages).

I hope I'm wrong but I can't help but feel the club's lack of resolve was a horrible precedent to set in an environment when the deck is already so stacked against non-cartel clubs.

The next part is a bit tongue in cheek:

Would we that much different this season if we hadn't bought Wissa and Elanga? Isak sulks until November, then started playing. [emoji38]
