One of the best aspects of his game is the way he drops into defense to cover btw. At times today he found himself at centre half covering Schar who'd pushed forward, and in both full back positions at various points. 

 

Genuine game intelligence and he has the engine and athleticism to do it seamlessly.

He's everything I hoped he would be and more. So pleased for him and us. What a midfield we have developing there.

His mobility and athleticism at a 6 is different level to Bruno. I still feel there is a little “clash” between the 2 as Bruno sees himself as a 6.

 

If and when they click and become comfortable in the system, we’ll have a midfield to be reckoned with.

 

Add a top RW option and we’ll cause all kinds of problems.

A clash in what way ? Bruno prefers playing higher imo.

I don't think Bruno sees himself as a 6, I think they both see themselves ideally as 8s.

They’d had a tendency to occupy the same positions on the pitch. Bruno might say he prefers playing higher up the pitch but he was forever dropping back to collect the ball. I had the feeling Bruno felt he was being pushed out of “his” position. 
 

Fwiw? Tonali is by far the better suited to the deeper position.

Mate, i think he was just playing very aggressively (first time) and trying to kill this game dead. I had no issue with it. I’d rather see that killer instinct than passive stuff.

The added quality in midfield has transformed the team.  
 

He’s brought what he always should have brought. Power and athleticism but also ability and leadership.  
 

The looseness with the ball at times was something that was always going to happen.  It happened at Milan. But his strengths make up for it and he can improve over time. It’s this looseness on the ball which is the main reason he wasn’t on City or similars radar.

Said it a long time ago that if he comes out as good as I thought he would, I'd give Howe creds for the signing. Because it was clear as a day that Howe was the one who wanted him, and you can certainly see why now. It took a while, mind.

We probably win that recent Brentford away game if he hadn't needed a rest. Guy is our heartbeat right now and just constantly putting out fires all over the pitch. 

 

Such an important role, as the Rodri for Man City absence shows. 

 

I kept praying all second half that he didn't get a yellow card and a suspension because I think he's number one on the team sheet currently.
