Chiesa. And we’re storming for the title.

I mean, I'll stand next to you and run into battle on that one.

Just feels like there's nothing really happening on the RW front... I think it's a mistake but Ashworth and Howe have thought about this more than me.

Same. Our right wing has to be a maverick-ish player or I’m telling you they need to stick Isak there and play him with Wilson and Gordon/Barnes.

love you Miggy but we are not doing ourselves justice with Alex and Wilson not playing together.

Don't want to overact after 1 game, but can't help but feel today showed why some of us have mixed feelings on this transfer window.

As individuals I'm happy with all of the additions we've brought in and feel like all will contribute and  strengthen the squad. But... after all of the business we've done, can't help but feel we're still talking about the same issues 3 games into the season.

Today we lacked pace at the back,

A left back who can push up and support the left wing (hopefully hall can rectify that) a creative force who could help unlock low blocks, and a specialist DM who can protect our slow back line. All problems alot of us highlighted at the end of last season. And a lot of these problems don't seem to be rectified.

Regardless, Ashworth and Howe deserve the benefit of the doubt. Hard to think longterm after that gut punch today, but trust the process.

You are a good team. But you always have to run at your maximum because you lack creativity in the final third. When your pressing drop, you are in trouble. You need a winger with dribbling and skills.

Why can't we just play

                    Wilson

Barnes.         Isak.           Gordon

             Bruno.      Tonali

Because it leaves our defence which already lacks pace massively exposed?

Maybe if we stop playing burn at lb and actually play one of our lbs there that would help. Then get tonali to hang back and protect the back 4.

With big Joe I'm cm we lack creativity

Why? I have only told my opinion.

For me Newcastle lack: 1 winger with dribbling and skills + 1 physical defensive midfielder + 1 fast CB.

But you are a good team, this is clear. But if you want to compete for the top you need 3 players.

He’s right, we do need a more skilful winger and pace at the back. He is saying what some have been saying all summer.

He is right about the defensive midfielder too, if we had signed one then we could play Isak off Wilson rather than him being isolated up top with no support from the midfield. It is going to get worse this season as more teams sit deep for us to try and break them down but top teams need to evolve as they progress which the players we have signed suggest we are not going to do that.

Instead of working on the above signings we spent £70 million on back up players to Gordon and Trippier.

Thought Isak was well marshalled yesterday and our attack just seems to predictable for my liking. Whether it’s the formation or we just need a truly world class wide forward on the right i don’t know.

It’s a legitimate question for Howe and the recruitment team as to why we splashed 40 million on Barnes, when it looks as though it’s a case of him or Gordon.

If Barnes is going to be used as a super sub, I can’t see Gordon being switched to the right due to Howe favouring inverted wingers, then basically that money should have been spent on someone to actually come in and strengthen the starting 11.

Strengthening the first 11 should have been the priority this summer and not a back up left forward for Gordon.

We are massively limited by FFP as we know and as per design. It’s quite clear we take a long term view when buying players, Tino, Hall and Gordon are all classic examples of this. With this approach brings trade the obvious trade offs but should see us do well in the long term.

Maxi was always going to leave. People would be pissing and moaning if we didn’t replace him.

And we’re 3 games into the season. 1 and 3/4 of those games have been very encouraging.

Miggy was one of best performers yesterday, BTW. He is most weeks. Shocking lack of respect he gets.

We clearly don't make signings purely with the next season in mind. We keep getting told over and over - this is a long term project, we're ahead if schedule etc - maybe we should take them at their word?

If they think Livramento is our RB for most of the next ten years, maybe we decide to sign him rather than the 8th RW on our list? Maybe our top RW target becomes available next summer?

Yep. It does mean that we have to dampen expectations for this season though, some of these players aren't necessarily going to have an immediate impact when you look at the relative lack of top class experience with the likes of Hall and Livramento.

I’ve got no problem with the Hall and Livramento signings as you can clearly see there for the future and age of squad needs to come down.

However, for me the Barnes signing is for the here and now and if he doesn’t nail down a starting place it’s a bust for me. We’ve got a potential star on our hands in Elliott Anderson who would have been great cover down the left if that’s all Barnes amounts to.

Early days and they’re transfer record stands up to scrutiny so far, but Barnes looks like a one trick pony to me who wont win us games against top teams.

Barnes has already scored a decent goal for us mind, I wouldn't write him off after three games.
