NUFC Transfer Rumours

Happy to shift players as long as we replace them within the same window but agree with cubaricho we shouldn’t leave ourselves short.

Ideally not. But some players might be difficult to move on later. The opportunity might not come next window.

I think Longstaff is the right move in Jan or Summer. I personally do not want to him to go, as I agree with @ponsaelius about retaining that local identity, and in addition to that, I think having hat local core is also good for the squad as well (our local lads like Long and Burn are actually leaders in the dressing room).

I see Miley slotting into Longstaff’s role. I think you’d move Willock on if the offer was too good to turn down, but you keep him until you sign a quality attacking mid who offers his dribbling / ball carrying ability. Again, I’d prefer to keep Willock long term too but we do need to trade to use the money we have.

The real determinant here is price. If someone came in for longstaff at £25m it’s an easy sell, but I really doubt you get that, if it’s £10m then what do you do in the summer? Buy a CM for more than recouped and probably on higher wages. That doesn’t solve PSR issues in the long term. (If there’s someone in the youth setup fair enough, but as far as I know there isn’t.)

Have to look at each player in the squad and understand their value to the club vs their value in the market. For me longstaffs squad value is higher than his transfer value below a £20m odd bid.

I think realistically someone would lowball us with 15m for Longstaff, which we wouldn't entertain, i think we would sell at 20 though.

The key to it all is actually Lewis Miley. With Miley we've effectively saved a replacement. We'd have to replace Miley (in squad status) but for that we go young and see if we can add someone who we can develop long term, like with Osula.

To be honest, come the summer it’s getting to decision time with Willock.

He’ll have two years left on his contract so you have to decide you either want to keep him and start looking at a new contract, or sell before he starts losing value due to contract length.

With Willock, he’s not going to be the player we need him to be long term. He’s inconsistent, and he’s injury prone.

I was surprised to see that Hayden is still on our books, so we should be looking to sell him as well, even if it means we have to pay his wages until his contract runs out in the summer.

We tried to spend near that this summer and haven’t sold a player since so….$0. The money is there.

Money has never been the question brother, it’s the PSR distance from the edge into having to sell someone and our commercial income and player sale income needs to improve so we can spend the money. It’s been said before that the Guehi deal = selling someone big in the summer.

Theoretically there’s quite a sum of wages coming off the books in the summer.

Out of contract you’ve got Wilson, Dubravka, Lascelles, Lewis, Schar and Kraft.

Now Schar and Kraft might sign extensions, but with the other four you’re probably clearing at least £150k p/w.

Obviously if we’re going to improve the squad with their replacements, it’ll likely cost a fair bit more, but hopefully it at least gives some wiggle room.

This was my understanding, though I wish I could fall in line with Cubs idea that we're loaded. Guehi deal would have pushed us into selling a first teamer this summer to make up the deficit, like we did with Anderson and Minteh.

Though I do think it's mental to me, that the club tried to sign Guehi knowing that would be the case. Like Eddie has bemoaned losing Anderson and Minteh all season, yet we were willing to do the same again is baffling.

Agree on Willock. Feel he just ain't ever gonna be that lethal attacking mid who spends every game leaving defenders in the dust. There's some transfer funds to be had there.

Champions League qualification could be massive for the summer.

we should be looking at £40-£50m additional revenue with that and some additional sponsorships off the back of it.

Allowing for the wage savings in SteV’s post we should be able to add £500k a week in wages (£18m) and drop £100m on fees before any sales

New rules coming in by then though. Teams who were in it this year get legacy payments of 100mill, teams that qualify but weren't in this year's actually have to pay 100mill for the privilege of being in the same draw.

doesn’t that only apply if you were in the competition in 2023/2024 and have a manager with the initials EH though?

oh shit…..

I think it’s about time we are cynical in the next few windows and shift all players not up to standards (incl Longstaff etc) and buy young promising players. If not we will never progress imo.

That's great on paper but we need willing buyers. It's not as easy as it is on FM.

We literally have had bids on Almiron and I am sure it is clubs interested in Longstaff/Willock. Tired of this patronizing FM bullocks. Quite clear the club have had a desire to keep «squad» players at the club. To progress it have to end.

So accept any bids ? Under 10mill for Longstaff ?
