NUFC Transfer Rumours

Recommended Posts

Feels very much like we're in 'clearing the decks' mode. Anyone not playing/contributing or nearing the end of their contract is fair game and I'm not against it at all. We do need a squad and we need bodies but if those bodies aren't really good enough then there's little point in keeping them around. We need to raise funds from players giving little/nothing, we have no choice. Mitchell will need to be smart this summer but we need to move them on before we can do deals. 14 in the League, 2 (maybe) in the LC, 2 or 3 (maybe) in the FAC, it's already February and we have players coming back too.

It'll be an interesting and pivotal summer

I think we can look forward to the summer. We'll be in a much better place (Hopefully with European football).

Kind of leaves us a bit light on depth though with these two going doesn't it? Or are we going to rely on youth players if the need comes? I mean, I know neither have had much game time recently, but it doesn't leave many options if we get any injuries for the second half of the season, especially with supposedly pushing for Europe and cup finals. Mind you, not like the first team have shown much in the last couple of games...

Feels like we're accepting not getting into the CL to some extent.

Which also means accepting we're likely to lose a purple in the Summer.

But if we invested in any meaningful way we’d have to lose a purple anyway?

The hard part in the summer is not just replacing the outgoing players but actually improving on them in a serious way. We aren’t necessarily selling good players but we’re now at the stage of trying to get top 4 regularly so the upgrades will need to be bought with that in mind.

We ain’t taking this approach to lose a purple.

Don't think so really. We've only sold players that are barely playing anyway, they've barely even got on the pitch as subs.

Is that for certain?

I don't see why we couldn't spend a reasonable amount on a RW this window given we've brought in £30m.

I get that means we'd be breaking PSR come June.

So surely selling a Barnes/Joelinton would alleviate that?

It's all ifs and buts but I feel like CL is there for the taking, and we're just letting it slip away.

We're talking about a potential £100m in revenue if we qualify, where else are we going to get that without selling a big player?

Genuinely think Howe has us punching above our weight this season - the summer was SUCH a disaster.
We've had 1 striker fit all season, 1 RW producing and another barely featuring and sold, 2 CB's inc best defender and the other an ex club captain out for half the season, the other ex captain with 10 assists last year barely featuring completely out of form. Having to pay £20m - a huge amount - in the top 12 all time NUFC purchases - and biggest outright purchase last summer (Hall was already confirmed before) for a GK that never features and a pointless outlay. Then being forced to lose Anderson and Minteh - probably 60-80M worth of young talent who have their best years ahead of them (neither would have been sold without PSR). Then getting rejected multiple times for our first choice signing in the summer, and our other freebie signing we had all but agreed. The other free signing turning out to be rubbish too.

When you really put what we've had to deal with, we've honestly done amazingly. PSR has stifled our competitiveness but not killed our spirit thankfully. It's majorly frustrating though with what could have been. We keep saying we're 1-2 purples (RCB, RW, poss GK) away from a title-winning XI but the depth is really poor and can't be fixed in one summer. It really is 3-5 seasons away at our current run rate.

Yes, it is. We haven’t brought in £30m. We’ve brought in £10m and we’ve loaned out a player who’ll move in the next PSR cycle.

Furthermore, potential CL revenue wouldn’t be a factor in this PSR year. So even if we qualified we’d probably need to sell someone big to avoid a points deduction next season if we spent

Also I’ve zero idea why - when we’ve found it so hard to move fringe players on - we assume there’s an easy, PSR-busting sale for players like Barnes that would save us in June.

The people in charge of the club know what they’re doing. It’s a calculated gamble but then so is everything in football. There’s no easy solution but sticking with the squad that has us in fifth and not fucking us for future transfer window seems like the best bet.

Yeah fair comments.

It seems to be a lose/lose unless we somehow get into the top 5.

We play it safe and stay within PSR, having room to spend after June 30 but likely to miss out on the CL and have to sell at least one big player.

We get a RW, have a better chance of CL but not a guarantee.

End up scrambling around again in June and have to sell a big player if we can't get rid of a Barnes.

I personally think there was an assumption that we would be allowed to set up sponsorship deals similar to big six or that the Man city case would be resolved by now.

It's unfair to blame the club when every opportunity other clubs have used was suddenly slammed shut.

Also PSR is now a league wide issue not just ours.

Refuse to believe that we can’t build a squad from by being smart.  Bournemouth got Semenyo from Bristol City, plucked Kerkez out of obscurity.  Need a bit of luck on the way but it can be done

I think it's easier for a club like Bournemouth to go and do that though. Same with Brighton a few seasons back. The stakes aren't as high if risky signings go wrong.

We supposedly have the best in the business at this in Mitchell and he hasn't signed anyone yet.

Kerkez - Huijsen - Zabanyi were all known - Bournemouth jumped in ahead of the rest, probably because those top 6 were shopping in a higher market

Trouble is, as soon as clubs and agents know that we are interested, they will be pushing them to the other big clubs as well.

’Look, Newcastle want him, if they want him then he must be good’.

Bournemouth, Brighton, and Brentford coming in for players is different, they won’t have the likes of Man City looking at them as well.

We were linked with him, feel the club gets the scouting right but is a footballing voyeur, watches but never makes a move unless it’s a proven talent.
