NUFC Transfer Rumours

Will they be right?

The i Paper can confirm Newcastle are in for Ipswich striker Liam Delap and Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen, who have release clauses of £30m and £50m respectively.

Howe has previously placed a premium on Premier League experience, although sources have also suggested the idea that he only wants domestic-based targets is overblown. He championed the signing of Sandro Tonali from Milan, for example – and he has proved a huge success.

Newcastle are almost certain to dip into the overseas market again this summer, believing it offers better value. Lowering the squad’s age profile is also a target, Newcastle having renewed the contracts of most of the players coming to the end of their deals.

Burnley already have Traffords replacement with Etienne Green.

Are they going to rely on a keeper who's barely played any football?

Huijsen would very likely strengthen our squad but I really don't like throwing 50m at players that were available for a quarter of that just one year ago. Bournemouth will be laughing all the way to the bank and it makes a bit of a mockery of our supposedly super clever transfer dealings.

You don't have to worry. He won't be coming here.

Speculation that Delap wants £150k p/w, thats more than we pay Isak ???

I think we'll shop abroad, the domestic market doesn't provide good value (in a PSR world)

Really? Damn

Chelsea will be in a bind then.

I think all the players we have been linked with that have release causes we will be blown out the water in terms of wages. It will need the player to want to play for us and accept less wages.

I am a big Huijsen fan but don't think he will come here due to wages. There are plenty of young defenders in Portugal I like but they may cost £50 million plus and that's a risk.

I have faith in Mitchell to unearth some players from Europe or South America who will be a fraction of this cost.

It’ll be a hybrid forward who can play on the right and up front, once we start getting quoted astronomical fees in the summer it’ll be 3 players not 4 we can afford.

Hopefully this man!

I’d rather go for Kubo. Real Sociedad might have no European football at all next season, so I could see them being tempted by an offer which wouldn’t be as much as what a Premier League club would want for one of their players.

The same applies to that Bournemouth CB, rather take a gamble on of the defenders from someone like Sporting Lisbon, than pay over the odds for him.

I'm putting Mbeumo and Huijsen in the same category - quality players who are exactly what we need position/age wise but at a premium.

I have no idea what our budget is but we're going to need three starters (GK, CB, RW) and at least two backups (CM, CF). Of course the RW/CF could be the same player but ideally we'd get one of each.

If we can afford Mbeumo and still have room in the budget for the rest then great, but I'd rather back Mitchell and our scouting team to identify cheaper alternatives and I'd back Howe to get the absolute best out of them, rather than splash out on one big signing and still leave us short on depth.

Honestly think we need a really big summer, after effectively no first team investment for three windows. If we want to avoid a repeat of last season we really need to significantly raise the floor on the squad, as well as address a few obvious deficiencies in the first 11.

There may be a fair few departures this summer Wilson, Targett, Longstaff & Trippier to name but a few. I really hope that Mitchell has an adequate plan to rectify that, as without this being addressed we run the risk of having another injury ravaged season, leading us to not being able to maintain another European qualification. The only way we can effectively begin to bridge the gap to the Crafty 6 is consecutive CL qualifications.
