What would our thoughts be on a potential Barnes - Ramsey swap?

Ramsey when fit would be a perfect Howe player imo. Has had some length injuries already though.

Hopey Just the other week reckons we don't have a pot to piss in. And then links all these names 😂

Feels like the narrative changes everyday. Almost like they're clueless and just need to get eyes on their guff.

Where we not linked last January along with others? When it was rumoured Villa were looking at the possibility of selling due to PSR issues and the PEWA Profit.

Cunha would be great to have in the squad (no dickhead policy though?) but if we signed him there’s no way we could afford a purple RW too. Murphy has been class but another summer without an established RW signed would be instantly classed as disastrous.

fabian sorted gordon out.

sure he could sort cunha out with the help of his brazilian bros.

Yeah, hard to see us signing a £62.5m attacking midfielder and also getting a purple RW, RCB etc , which is why I was suprised at the link from Hope

Makes me wonder is this a priority position / style of player we want, or was it more we think he is the right player that we've scouted for a while and prepared to sign even if not the right time (kinda like we did with Barnes/Hall/Tino)

Maybe we fed Hope a duff link just to give the journalists something to talk about, like we've did with Edwards

Either way, an exciting link and its a type of player I'd love is to have, not sure who is similar and available out there

There was one fragment from when Mitchell was appointed, I can't remember who posted it or where / how reliably it was sourced.

If I've remembered correctly, it was basically that he hates protracted public negotiations and often sends out false targets. That doesn't seem to square with the Guehi pursuit, but there you go. But then, it did seem like he was the target from before he was appointed, which he stuck to depending on what you believe from the press comments.

Wouldn't be surprised if there was some hybrid approach of previous and now new targets here, given Howe has been no slouch in the transfer market on past scouting.

So I'm kind of discarding a lot of links for now. For one thing, I don't think we'd know where we stand till we know where we finish, and therefore our budget, for the next year at least.

They're probably working on a few simultaneous lists depending on where we are, but the Barnes buy does suggest we'll also be opportunistic at times too.

Still love reading it all, mind.

Hate the fact the PSR window has become a thing. Well done Richard Masters you turd guzzling creep.

This. Every year wondering who’s turn it is to be vulnerable in the PSR window. But you can guarantee it won’t be the red cartel including Man Utd in over a Billion pounds of debt. Shite

I’m hoping/assuming there are some unnamed targets we are in for. A lot of the names so far don’t really seem in line with what Mitchell is good at, and would take up most of the budget.

Supposed to stop clubs doing a Leeds and having to sell their better player, by making someone be a Leeds and having to sell their better players

I rate Ramsey very highly, but I'd only consider a deal like this if we do to Villa what Forest did to us when we were desperate.

We buy Ramsey from them for a cut price and they buy Barnes at an inflated fee that bolsters our PSR situation for what we all know is a situation where we need to overhaul large parts of the squad to get our average age down.

How would that help them?

This deal involves a player exchange with a direct competitor. We are trading a prolific goalscorer, arguably second only to Isak in finishing ability, for a player with a significant injury history and considerably less goal-scoring prowess than Barnes.

Its a big no for me.

Ramsey is Willocks replacement, so a like for like swap with Barnes makes no sense to me

Doesnt have to be. Finding a left winger to play as back up to Gordon isn't going to be so difficult, where as Ramsey as an upgrade to Willock might be the exact target Howe wants.

Oh how i wish that was true.

Barnes and Gordon are our LW choices, remember we're in Europe next season! They'll get plenty of playing time, maintaining quality. Grab a top RW to play with Murphy, and we're set on the wings. Loads of depth there.

Yeah, get Ramsey, but don't ditch Barnes to do it.
