Don’t think this is true at all. Pope is a good goalkeeper, as is Dubs, but they both have flaws and Pope’s only one isn’t his distribution. Hit him low and hard and he’s unlikely to get down in time for instance. Neither is neat world class in the way Tonali and Isak are, or even very good PL players like Bruno, Gordon, etc. I think we can improve in what is a vital position, and if there is an opportunity to do so at a relatively small fee, we definitely should!

I love Pope, but replacing him could have a major impact on how we play actually. Never thought i would be excited by a goalkeeper signing aswell, but this time I might be. Football has changed.

Corr, yes please. Not seen him since he moved there, but he was an immense talent in La Liga. Always felt he would’ve went to Man City as Gundogan replacement but ended up in Saudi.

Tbh we’ve known we need a new keeper for a long time, presumably longer than Villa, so I would assume we’ve done the groundwork and know who wants to come. The top clubs butter up players and their families for yonks before signing them.

 

That said García seems to be getting linked to everyone and there’s a long list of rich clubs that need a new keeper.

DCL on a free is a no-brainer - he’ll be happy to be Isak’s back-up and get minutes in the cups 

 

I’d be all over Walkers-Peters on a free too 

 

Then go heavy on a GK, CH (Guehi) and a RW and they may as well give us the title now!

I was making the point that having CL, which I believe we will,  may make a difference.

Agree with all of those, Howe would rejuvenate DCL and he’d give us the aerial threat option. Fitness hasn’t been so much of an option recently as opposed to just not scoring goals. Going heavy on gk, CB, RW would really transform us (I do still like the idea of a different option in midfield, a play-maker type to break teams down but you can have everything I guess).

I didn’t say we’ll have to go for him. I hinted that Aston Villa will now need a 1st choice GK if it looks like Martinez is leaving and with us being at a similar trajectory as Villa and them having a Spanish manager and DOF it might not be as nailed on we are getting the Spanish lad after all and Trafford is possibly our next GK regardless of reports.

 

I also said that if a player chooses a club over another based on one being in the UCL and another not but equally fighting for the same goals long term with bigger ambitions further down the line I’d be weary of signing that type of player.

 

So maybe you do need to take a short break from here but not on my account.
