NUFC Transfer Rumours

The CM recruitment is so much more complicated than the rest, it's a shame that 1 of Longstaff/Willock or Miley (yet...) aren't up to scratch as this would give us so much more flexibility

With the links to Cunha/Pedro, makes me think we are trying to get someone who could play as a CM/AM, and also CF. But it's ashame we can't get both in 2 different players.

Ideally I'd love to have something like Ederson, Pedro, and a new RW. Sell 1 of Willock/Longstaff, loan Osula

We’d have up top - Isak, Pedro, Gordon, Barnes, New RW, Murphy

And midfield - Bruno, Tonali, Joelinton, Ederson, Miley, W/L

Isak has a quality and like for like replacement, who can also play as an AM giving us more flexibility

Miley can start off as deputy to Bruno/Tonali, could see how he fares till January

Ederson / Joelinton can rotate in our physically demanding LCM role

Shame this is likely impossible cos of FFP, I'd fancy us against anyone with this midfield and forward line

So rambling out loud here... would people agree that these players would pretty much give us a top 4 level, complete squad?

Pedro

Elanga

Ederson

Guehi

But the issue is, these would probably cost £200m

We have no idea how much we are prepared to spend, but would around £120m be unrealistic?

Completely guessing the numbers, but take Ederson out, and buy a AM who can cover CF and CM (Pedro). Say £50m saved

Guehi £40m, Pedro £55m, could we find a right winger for around £25M? 🤷

Though this doesn't factor in if we want / get Trafford, but I'd rather have Pope and Dubravka for 1 more year and sufficiently improve our outfield players

£120m would be less than £50m in amortised cost net.

I would double that spend and sell next June if necessary.

Good point.

So CL revenue should cover roughly this much of spend for 1 year?

Hope we do it then

I'm convinced it'll be him, and we'll overpay massively for him.

I'm not. PIF have only overpaid for the Greek GK and that was part of some sort of PSR move I don't understand. I thought we overpaid for Isak and Tonali at first, but i was wrong about both. Maybe Targett, but he played a role that was needed at one time and £15 million isn't going to ruin a budget. Barnes and Gordon play important roles so i don't think we overpaid for them either.

Targett has been a stinker with hindsight but it’s not like he’s a £50m shit buy.

We play with 3 midfielders. You only need 1 player of 3 to get injured, suspended or need a rest to play. We will play 3x a week, every week from September to January excluding international breaks. That's loads of starts and minutes of the bench for another CM.

I like the idea of signing a JP/Cunha/Alvarez type. Could drop a CM and play as a 10. Or play instead of Isak in our current setup.

That's +48 matches in four months, seems a bit high? Think the more honest way would be saying we play twice a week as it is the reality.

Jonathan David is a free agent at the end of this month. I don't think there would be any meltdown if we got him..just saying.

Quote yesterday-ish

Still... don't think he is one for us. Italy looks more likely. Napoli seems to have cooled and Juve on the scene now.

Tonali, Bruno & Joelinton will be running on empty later in the season if we dont address the CM situation.

I'd like us to go for either a free or pay a low transfer fee for a 30ish year old back up in midfield; a Jorginho or Trippier (equivalent to Trippier) type signing just to do a job for a season or two before we really invest in that area. Possibly send out Miley on loan to really see what he's got at the same time.

Aye, a Jorginho 2023 equivalent would be nice if we could get decent fees for Longstaff and/or Willock. Still think there would be room for Miley too to not go out on loan and be that 4th/5th option depending on who is out of the starters.

Said it loads of times I want a signing like when Moutinho went to Wolves… someone who’s seen it all and can just add a bit of guile and experience.

Yeah, would really help with the second choices too to have that calming experienced player there along with two of Miley/Willock/Longstaff in early cup games.

Ruben Neves on loan with an obligation of, say, £30m would be easily sortable for our Saudi overlords.

Given the fee it’s seemingly going to cost to get Mbeumo + his wages I’m sort of pleased we haven’t. It’s similar to how we tried to get Guehi last season as the absolute peak of his value.

Remove his penalties which he won’t get ahead of Isak or Bruno at Man U I’m not sure it’s an entirely risk free purchase.
