NUFC Transfer Rumours

It was a shocking decision last year, we wanted Hjuisen after him being available last summer, instead we begged to massively overpay for Guehi, luckily Palace  continued to take the piss all summer. Hopefully we've learned. I wonder how many scouts we've had at the U-21 and CWC championships

We probably didn't sign Huijsen because he wanted a release clause in his contract.

Early days of the market have shown shopping for Premier League proven players is tough. There are clubs with far deeper pockets and more trophies in the cabinet buying up the same players.

Our best work to date has come "buying the dip" abroad, buying young, unproven players or raiding relegated clubs.

I admire the ambition and don't feel "embarrassed" we've missed out on a few players, but we need to trust our talent ID a bit more until we're in a PSR position to flex our financial muscle. I hope that missing out on a few of these players sees us going down that road.

Speculation, but even if so that would be a stupid decision. We can’t afford to forego top talent going for reasonable fees because they want an out in case things don’t work out and a bigger club comes calling. In Dean Huijsen’s case Bournemouth had a very good defender in their ranks and tripled their money inside a year. It was definitely a gamble worth taking at the time. Besides, what’s to say such players don’t come to appreciate our club and may stay for years. After all, we’re a club going places and a great place to play football at the moment. If he’d come here and with us qualifying for CL and winning a cup, there’d be every chance he’d be willing to stay on and perhaps even renegotiate terms. We’d be handicapping ourselves massively if we would insist that players can’t have release clauses.

There's a limit to that though surely?

Mbeumo at >£62m and potentially just shy of £200k/week for example. What if Pedro goes to Chelsea for £65m and they give him £200k/week?

Just stick with the players we've got if last season's saga with Guehi was anything to go by. I think Howe does tend to stick with his very small pool of players he wants in, if we can't get them then we hold fire and maybe just sign young hopefuls.

Thats suicide going into a huge season. We need to be able to rotate or we'll struggle big time

Hopefully we do have a good number of alternatives lined up in case we don't get our prime targets. Just going off last season and Howe's quotes I'm not sure we will.

Howe has squeezed everything out of our players and masked their deficiencies. We have been lucky that teams such as Chelsea, Spurs and Man Utd have been below par since our ascension. A poor season could result in lower bids from clubs, next summer, to unsettle our ambitious players such as Isak and Tonali. We have to keep evolving in the transfer market and tactically to compete until our revenues enable us to offer elite wages.

Bournemouth took calculated risks(with little outlay) on highly rated youngsters such as Kerkez and Huijsen who integrated into their first team almost immediately. We have got to do the same if we can. We can’t compete with Chelsea, Spurs (Maddison went there instead) and Man Utd for players but we can blow Brighton, Bournemouth and Brentford out of the water for talent - we should be doing a ‘Chelsea’ on these clubs’ targets.

If we cant get the big boy targets, id have no qualms if we went for a couple of these England starlets.

I know the likes of Harvey Elliot and Hutchinson are raw and likely need 18 months of the Howe treatment but I think we'd all get on board with that against overpaying for other players.

11 July in my book. I'm not super worried as things stand, but if we haven't got one player in within the next fortnight I'd be starting to worry.

We would have to overpay for Elliot mind.

Even though there would still be plenty of time, if by the second week in July we haven't got a couple of players in or at as good as in, it will be a clear indication that things haven't gone to plan at all IMO.

I dont expect them to sign every targeted position before that point, in fact i think there is fair reason to keep some wriggle room for later in the window, but the club needs a couple.

You gotta time it perfectly in the middle. Too soon you're a bedwetter and too late you're a condescending superfan.

What sort of fee they looking at?

Without looking, I reckon given hes english 45?

If its more than that, then it too much given some obvious frailties to his game.

It's one of those where the price reduces late on IMO.

Yeah, I’d imagine around 40. Too much for him imo although he’s a good player I don’t see him as the RW profile Howe would want.

Harvey Elliot would not help us in any way.

TBF he would probably play a similar amount of games if he came here as if he stayed at Liverpool

Not worrying, but not getting a single player in for pre season is poor.

I think we have to overpay for anyone who’s dipped their toe in the premier league. Mad when you think some of our most successful signings hadn’t played a single minute of premier league football.

Apart from Trafford - another example of how painfully slow we conduct business - probably next week tbh.

Individually, missing out on Joao Pedro (overpriced, overrated, bit of a dick) and Guehi (we can do better) is absolutely fine. But when you combine it with Delap and Mbeumo, there's definitely a worrying pattern about the way we chase players, inevitably getting gazumped.

Hey, maybe this time they've planned properly and there's an actual Plan B/C/D in the pipeline. Really hope so :dontknow:   But the last couple of years have me cynical about that.

Technically we’ve signed two, Cordero (1st July) and Vakhtang Salia (Joins end of August).
