NUFC Transfer Rumours

Recommended Posts

The teams who have been particularly active so far are Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Man Utd. Brentford replaced their keeper and Brighton are doing the Brighton thing. June's business has been carried out by those teams not impacted by PSR (shock) and those with a totally different modus operandi to us.

If you've grave concerns at this point I think you need to chill out. At the very least we're clearly signing Trafford, and that's a really significant signing. He's clearly who they picture being our new long-term number one.

We're going after PL players because that's the safest way to invest major funds, but we're swimming against the tide when it comes to actually getting those deals over the line. But I've no gripes with us starting there and moving down the list as time goes by. It would be ideal to have all of our number one targets in immediately, but only a very small number of teams are blessed with the ability to do that.

Apart from Trafford - another example of how painfully slow we conduct business - probably next week tbh.

Individually, missing out on Joao Pedro (overpriced, overrated, bit of a dick) and Guehi (we can do better) is absolutely fine. But when you combine it with Delap and Mbeumo, there's definitely a worrying pattern about the way we chase players, inevitably getting gazumped.

Hey, maybe this time they've planned properly and there's an actual Plan B/C/D in the pipeline. Really hope so :dontknow:   But the last couple of years have me cynical about that.

Think they work from a very small pool of targets and share your cynicism.

Where not nimble in the market and the narrative will change shortly to a couple of quality additions, tin hat on but I predict already we’ll start next season massively under equipped for the season ahead.

I'm convinced people only want Xavi Simons because he's got a cool name.

Bro played 230 times for my all-conquering Burton Albion team on FM2020 and still only 25. That's why i want him.

I can handle the slow progress, but at least give me some fake juicy rumours for me to YouTube scout at least.

Pathetic from journos tbh, more than happy to be lied to at this trying time.

Yet another anti-competitive aspect of PSR is that it effectively gives the non-cap teams veto power over transfers from any team subject to a cap (i.e. us), since they can so easily outbid on fees and wages, even if they don’t actually want or need the player as much as we do.

Correct. Might as well get who we need this window and take a points hit from PL and fine from UEFA.

It’s clear that there are a few players that we’ve been after for a few weeks now, and we’ve also had all season work out whether they would want to sign for us. I think if we can’t get Pedro, Elanga, and Trafford wrapped up by the time pre-season starts then something is wrong and we need to move onto more attainable targets. It might be that the players are too expensive, the other club is messing us around, or the player is holding on to see if there are other options.

I think we as fans would do well to remain patient (lol) as while it would be nice to have a deal wrapped up by now it is still early.

We are good at keeping our moves quiet, we only know what has been leaked and then recycled over and over again by the journos because they are feeding off of scraps, this isn’t a bad thing. If we heard about every single up and down of every deal and every line of enquiry that we made so far this summer this forum would probably literally explode..

Theres lots happening, and lots of variables and moving parts as always with football. But that does not always mean that we are being messed around, or a player is angling for a better offer from elsewhere. There’s a lot of reasons that deals arnt struck, personal and financial.

We don’t have an option but to be parient, but we should also recognise that a third of the transfer window is gone and pre-season is about to start. We spent all summer chasing a lost cause last year and this year we need a number of players in, so IMO we should set ourselves a deadline. A month seems enough of time to get a player in.

For clarity, the Guehi story didn’t break until the start of August last year, so “all summer” is a bit wild.

But, in principle, I agree with your overall point.

And our negotiations likely ended long before the press/Parrish stopped milking it.

(I also agree with the overall point)
