NUFC Transfer Rumours

£52m? To be honest all the numbers seem ridiculous guess the actual cost itself  becomes secondary to a comparison of what you could get for a similar amount.
Perhaps we should go and buy five League One/Championship level players and hope one works out.

Well for starters there isn’t a guarantee Elanga would work out for us. From my limited knowledge gained from watching the odd Forest game when they’ve been on Super Sunday, he suits them down to the ground being a fast winger that they try to get the ball to as quick as possible when playing on the break. We play  completely different way - he may suit, he may not. I’m not saying I don’t trust Howe to make it work.

I am saying I think anything close to £60m (so I suppose £52m can be included in that) for him is absolutely absurd. I couldn’t see any of the teams we’re competing with in the league make that signing.

Also able to acknowledge that £50m now is probably a £20m player 5-6 years ago, but still. Just a mad fee for a relatively limited player.

Is juice and a sweetie Scots jargon for crystal meth and ketamine?

😆

Nope, just innocent Irn Bru and a Mars Bar. I was just a wee boy back then. It was later in life when I discovered the joys of painkiller and benzodiazepine addiction 😔

I don't agree but fair enough opinion.

I honestly don't have a clue how much a stadium name change would bring in, but sometimes you have to do things you don't want to.

When it comes down to it a stadium is just 4 stands and a pitch. The real heart of the club are the fans that inhabit the stands.

I would rather have Eliott than Elanga to be fair , Liverpool fans rate him but he wants regular football which they can't give him .

If Liverpool rated him that much I think the asking price would be a lot higher than £40m. From what I read Slot doesn't think he's got the physicality required for his football philosophy, and I think Howe won't want him for the same reasons.

I would rather spend 1-20m-ish to find/gamble the next Huljsen. Fuck the non-EPL risk. The best buy are always from foreign leagues. Man City didn’t buy their Ballon Dor players from other EPL clubs.

Rodri was £62.8m, a release clause and on £220k a week

Not seeing your point?

Offer 35M with a buyback. With Wirtz at #10 and them likely to go big when they replace Salah, Eliott plays right, it is unlikely they'll buy him back. Only danger would be them buying him back cheaply to flip to another team.

He's a very useful player who covers multiple positions, is inexpensive, and gives us more time to build commercial revenue, including that stadium, to get to a point where we can aim higher. His record is way way better than Ibe or Solanke. They are not a valid comparison.

He's only got two years left, which may partially explain the fee. If Howe really rates him, offer 43M or so for him outright.

Feel like Elanga is just fast (very fast) but not a lot else. Puts in the odd nice cross and scores counter goals. Happy to be proven wrong if he comes here and smashes it and becomes our best winger.

Just feel like if you went out and got a really fast winger on the continent for a fraction of the price, you would probably get a similar impact to what Elanga would have on the team. But I guess there is something to be said for "Premier league proven"

Wonder if the club needs to take more chances on potential rather than proven and trust Howe to bring the best out of them.

I’d absolutely take Elliot because he’s very good and will have a burning point to prove. It’s just hard to stomach giving Liverpool that sort of money to help fuel their spending, but rather have Elliot here than at another Prem club.

He’s a more expensive CHO. Where talent is obvious but people will turn away because of recency bias. Say it plenty of times, but what he was doing in the championship at 17 is not skill that’s just magically disappeared.

Clubs should hold their nerve and wait till end of the window when that price drops to £30m.

That’s a huge disservice to him, make it seem like he’s like Adama Traore over the years, when he’s shown to be so much more.

I mean he's pacy, good with the ball, can pick out a pass, actively looks for the pass, can contribute on set pieces and he's 22 or 23.  Looks like he can play both wings as well, so there's a bit of versatility there although we'd be right back at our "Who the fuck is on the right" conundrum aside from Murph.
