The Athletic video today on YouTube about possible Toon transfers was good. He reckons we should go for Bryan Mbeumo and Victor Roque.

I’d take Mbeumo, but if he was the target I’d imagine they’d have gone for him already, would seem bizarre to wait until mid August to bid

How do we know we haven't been speaking with brentford for a long time and are waiting on what happens with toney moving.

not really. If Guehi last bid is rejected we might really go for RW (Mbeumo) instead. I think we are able to spend a big one this window.

Bring back the Pink and no league table until after 10 games.

Aye, but only one sub and no twenty-five man squad to keep tabs on back then. You'd be lucky to get more than three minutes of highlights the next day on Tyne Tees.

My all-time favourite unrealistic rumour was Socrates in the Ronny Gill following the 1982 World Cup. We have ended up with some real Brazilian quality in midfield, but neither of them glide around like Socrates!

I'm sure I read somewhere that The Pink is coming back this season

Yep, though the ‘I’m confident we’ll spend £200m’ crowd appears to have dwindled.

Don’t recall anybody saying that, let alone a crowd. We’ve bid for (at least) two £50m+ players, though doubt we’d have gone for Guehi if we’d got Olise. I think we will sign Guehi and in doing so make him our record signing. We’ll also have provisional ‘agreements’ in place for a right sided forward. Probably dependent on getting an acceptable bid and Miggy agreeing to leave. Add this to the other business (first team and for development/investment signings) and our outlay will have been significantly more than most expected and about as good as we could have hoped for.

A huge lot of people was saying this back in April that we must spend over 100m this summer to massively improve 3-4 starting positions.

Guehi won’t be our record signing. No chance. No way we offer over 70m euro for Guehi.

Socrates and Keegan in the old 2nd division would have been a sight.

.com has Isak at £60m. Not certain about any additional payments. I’m guessing we’ll pay >=£55m for Guehi plus up to £10m add ons.

I'm intrigued by that, show me where that was said.

Speculation linking us with Elanga this morning. He went to Forest for 17.5m, last year; 5 goals, 9 assists. Still only 22, three caps for Sweden. More affordable option if Miggy goes?

Madueke has a much higher ceiling but, despite being a more limited player, I think Elanga suits our play more. I’d much rather go for the former if they’re anywhere close in terms of valuations though.

I find elanga to be unlikely, all the reports were we wanted to include him in the deal with Anderson but forest weren’t having it. Reluctant sellers would certainly inflate the fee.

Rather go with Miggy and Murphy than spend big on him tbh.

Well, believe it’s Murphy’s shirt at the moment. So it’ll either be Miggy on the bench/competing or a newbie. Elanga/similar might give him tougher competition.

One for you here, bet you can’t guess the RW targets Waugh has mentioned this morning in the weekly athletic update ?
