AyeDubbleYoo
I think it was more that we spent money on them instead of a RW.
Kid Icarus
It was more Hall and Barnes IIRC. Some are some that still think Barnes was a poor signing.
AyeDubbleYoo
And after the fact with Tonali, since he got banned and all.
gazza ladra
There were many non-NUFC pundits and fans who reckon we paid too much* for Tonali. (I think that opinion had some traction.) * Same clowns that said we paid too much for Isak.
Stottie
10 hours ago, NoU said: Honestly, I didn't think it would be such a controversial shout. There are a ton of young foreign players that have failed at clubs like man u or chelsea, which have turned out great. Those clubs treat them horribly. There are many examples of players who didn't get a proper chance at Chelsea, like Salah and de Bruyne, or if you prefer, Hall and Livramento. Their current star is someone who didn't get a chance at Man City. There are some great ex City players out there. Antony is ex Man U, and has been given dozens of games without producing. There are not many examples of brilliant ex Man U players. Chelsea sign or train good players but don't make the most of them. Man U's recruitment and academy are nowhere near Chelsea's. Shak
I think people were pleased with the 2023 summer window at the time. It definitely aged poorly early on though. Tonali it looked like Milan might have absolutely done us selling us a player that they possibly knew was gonna be banned soon for huge money. Hall couldn't get on the pitch for a team with a horrendous injury crisis. Tino looked quality but played the same position as one of our key players. Barnes was having an injury hit first season. Natural enough that people were feeling nervous about the business at the time. Suffice to say, the worm has very much turned now. Three of them have turned into automatic starters, and Barnes has been productive when he's been able to get on the field with how well Gordon has done. timeEd32
It’s not about the players. Our scouting has basically been beyond reproach since the takeover. The summer of 2023 was financial mismanagement though and that’s true even if we win the treble this season.
