NUFC Transfer Rumours

A great point about physicality. I think Howe is looking for a Space Jam Monstars approach to his recruitment. Yes they have to be good technically, but can they go 90 minutes at Arsenal, can they press for long periods, can they help defend set pieces.

I'm not saying it's essential but it's undoubtedly part of our recruitment focus.

 but also

Howe talks constantly about players being versatile and having the ability to play across the front line, so I would hazard a guess that it'll be someone physically capable, two-footed, direct, and competent in the air. Someone that might be similar to Olise in a few years maybe.

we've been saying we'll spend big next window for literal years now

feel like pure shit just want a marquee signing

If we can't at least theoretically spend big in the summer then the rules really are doing their job for the Big 6 teams. If it wasn't for the fact that we haven't really messed up on any of our transfers and Howe is a genius at getting the best out of players then we would have no chance.

They'll be thinking of new laws as we speak to hamstring us. Corrupt cunts!

It must boil their piss that we have the best midfield and striker in the PL, two England international fullbacks and we're the form team in the league, despite their best efforts to hold us back.

I wonder what the cartel will tell them to do next?

Mbeumo seems too old for us. There’s no chance to resell him for a profit. We sign younger players: Tonali at 23, Isak at 22, Hall at 19, Livramento at 20, Bruno at 23, Botman at 22, Gordon at 21.

Dibling is a good shout, so is McAtee. Mbeumo will be 26 at the start of next season.

With our PSR issues, signing anyone over 23 is risky. Dibling will be 19 at the start of next season, young for what we usually target but probably the best choice out of all the other potential targets.

I hate to be debbie downer but in Eddie's press conference, not only did he hint that we wouldn't sign anyone this January but also that the summer wouldn't be a big one.

Doesn’t need to be, bargains are out there to be had.

I can’t ever picture Howe saying anything other than that tbh. Cards close to chest kinda guy.

I'm glad we're doing well on the pitch and don't want to sound like a spoilt brat but I'm absolutely desperate to see us do something in the market like. We've basically had nothing happen for three windows now.

I think we need something tbh. I can’t see the squad lasting the rest of the season.

It's absolutely absurd like, literally just a half dozen or so clubs in Europe allowed to participate in the transfer market [emoji38]

It does show that sometimes teams do business for the sake of it, rather than trying to maximise their existing squad and waiting for the right deals. Liverpool have basically done nowt (Chiesa punt aside) for 18 months too and they're the best team in Europe this season.

It really did look like we'd gone stale earlier in the season but Howe seems to have got us clicking again with what he has. But we do have to start recycling the squad and freshening things up IMO.

Buying Elanga for 50m is a great example, not a chance he came in and improved us in hindsight, although most of us would have had him in to replace Murphy even at that price. If we did we'd not be 4th imo.

That's sort of luck though, this 11 won't keep winning and our squad needs better backup in most positions, doing so lessens the pot for the RW, GK and CB we'll eventually need, and likewise splashing out on them leaves us short trying to bulk out the squad, it's hard to not feel like 2 steps forward and one back with every deal, and the looming feeling we'll eventually have to sell Isak or Bruno to fund the squad is vile.

I think you're right, although it has to be considered in the context that most opponents are also struggling to make transfers, so everyone's in the same boat for having to fight against stagnation.

From the highlights McAtee looks better and more direct than Dibling, but he also looks like far too much of short arse for what we need.

He's taller than Dibling and Mbuemo.

Longstaff is going to be sold either in Jan or in summer - pure profit there of 15-20m.

Almiron - 10m

Perhaps Lascelles, Kelly, Targett, Krafth, Trippier, Wilson too. Whole load of wages free up, even if not a huge amount of actual fees.

If you think about the Guehi money, and what we have to replace - we need to spend £100m minimum UNLESS we get cleverer with free transfers - look at Villa with Kamara - and also with younger foreign players like Minteh.

They don't always work - e.g for every Minteh there's a Kuol or Ashby but we have to box clever.

I'd look to get:

Kyle Walker Peters - 7m (or free in summer) - covers both Trippier AND Targett - no brainer

Dibling - 35-40m - the RW version of Hall/Tino  OR Mbuemo - 55m

RCB - Tapsoba - 35m (or Jonathon Tah, free)

Jonathon David - Free
Angel Gomes - Free

Roony Bardhaji - Free

There's a lot of quality becoming available - pay more on the wages if required if it means we can spend the majority on
