NUFC Transfer Rumours

Mbeumo probably is worth north of £50m but I think we have too many gaps in the squad (especially if we want to be competitive on multiple fronts next season) and not enough PSR wriggle room to fill them if we shop in that sort of price range.

We will probably need another keeper, we'll definitely need another CB, we may need a backup RB depending on what happens with Trippier, our depth at CM isn't great, plus we need RW/CF. We have a number of key players approaching their twilight years and most of the players we could sell for a fee would need to be replaced.

Someone earlier said Mbeumo would "complete us" - he'd complete the starting XI absolutely, but we're probably 4-5 players short of having a squad ready for PL and European football. The drop off between the first XI and the backups is too big.

Agree with most of that but I think outgoings would actually help fund a bit of a rebuild too. I don’t think it’s that far fetched that we spend 45-50 on a RW if we think they’re the real deal. I’m not saying we’ll sign Mbuemo but the one thing with a player like him is you get someone who can play as striker too. Definitely think the hybrid players are really important.

Insane take. If we can get him we should jump at it. He would complete us.

I don’t think he’s going to cost just 50 million, probably nearer 70. If we do that, and we get into the CL, then we will be again looking at a thin squad next year. We have other positions to sort as well. GK, CB, and maybe even a development player in CM if we ship Longy.

If we get champions league I think it could be the most exciting transfer window for a while though (possibly not hard given recent windows lol)

This is a fair assessment. I think Mbeumo is great, but not at the price we will have to pay. We should be able to pick up players that are of better value. If we get him, I would assume that would kind of be our lot unless we shifted a Bruno/Gordon/Isak

Again. Who is saying that? Most people are saying he’s going to be valued around £50m or more. Which is a bit rich for us and also that player.

Not remotely comparable.

Nobody’s saying it. That’s why I wrote ‘underlying assumption.’

I'm 54 now, and this is by far the worst Man United team i've seen. It's glorious to see, it really is.

I'd put it on a par with their 88/89 team that flirted with relegation. I recall watching our worst side in living memory toil to a 0-0 with them and they were almost as bad as us.

I'd say it worse, mainly due to the amount of money spent on it. It's a ludicrously bad side with the money they've spent. And I’m glad you said 88/89, someone else who knows football was played before the Premier League [emoji38]

Fair, they're god-awful having spent a fortune, that side was awful with an ancient Brian Mclair up top

Well you’re misreading it massively either way IMO.

Also. The Isak thing is their fans all over their Youtube channels, social media and now even their ex-pros. Going on about how they need to ‘go out and get Isak.’ Along with the Arsenal fans in general arrogantly going on about signing him.

Again. How are these two situations even remotely similar?!

Completely agree with you

RW, RCB and keeper are essentials in summer imo, and we'll have to allocate funds wisely

Our centre mid situation is interesting, and I think it's because Bruno and Tonali are so much better than the rest. Joelinton/Willock are good LCM options and cover for each other, but now the drop off to Longstaff from Bruno is huge, and Miley is still too raw to rely on for 4 competitions

Willock did play on the right side recently ahead of Longstaff, so I guess we could go with this. Either way I can't see is making an addition to CM, unless 1 goes

Keeper as well, assuming Dubs goes, Pope and a new keeper, do we go for a Trafford to build as an able deputy, or someone to start ahead of Pope etc
