NUFC Transfer Rumours

I assumed we'd target a more mobile RCB, one who can push up / follow his man into midfield and has recovery pace

From the very little I've seen of Huijsen, he reminds me of Botman

He's quite attacking - defo give us more presence in the box.

Would love to see it but feel we need to be attracting these kinda players before they become £50m+.

Maybe, but it seems he chose Bournemouth because they agreed to a release clause.

That’s a fair enough approach if you’re Bournemouth, but for where we want to be, we can’t be doing that*

*unless the release clause is massive, like Bruno’s was

I still think there is value, especially in this instance

If we bought him like Bournemouth and sold him with the release clause, it would still be £40m or so profit compared to the nothing we got for not doing it

I know what you mean that we don't want to lose players for way under their value, but with the small fee for him, it'd be worth it imo

My issue wouldn’t be so much the loss of value, although that’s hardly ideal, it’s more that you put yourself in a constant state of flux if you’re repeatedly having to replace players.

Our recruitment has been great overall, and maybe we could just replace someone like that the next season fairly seamlessly. But it’s putting even more pressure on to hardly ever make a mistake in the market.

Plus I don’t think Eddie’s management style aligns with that. He wants to work with a player continuously and improve them season on season. You can still tell how gutted he is about Anderson every time he speaks about him.

Yeah both good points

I guess for Huijsen it would come down to, would the FFP benefit have outweighed the squad management risks

Clearly we didn't think so, anyway. (Guehi goggles)

Now he’s got that bit of PL experience we’ll pay over the odds for him ? We could have had him for 12 million, or paid a bit more to remove Juve’s 10% clause, unfortunately they chose to pursue Guehi for stupid money as he was deemed a sure thing.

Got no problem paying for sure things when our income allows this, however we’ve now gone 3 windows without a purchase due to this failed approach, if Eddie is keen on him, Mitchell should be politely directing him to the next Huijsen and earning his salary.

We were in talks for Khusanov and Bah in January, trying to arrange deals for the summer.

They are more in line with what Huijsen was last summer, and so I'm pretty sure we'll be looking to improve on the team and squad, by looking for value in the market fee wise and salary wise.

It's what will be needed in order to supplement the key players we have and not sell any of them.

That's the whole point of getting someone like Mitchell on board.

Aye, last summer was the time to be gambling on him.

A lot of that article sounds like agent mischief though.

New contract with increased wages and release clause incoming.

But surely you don’t think we’re stupid enough to do exactly the same thing again?

Nobody knows until this summer and we see what their approach is, will we chase the likes of Mbuemo and Huijsen ? or show some imagination when it comes to the crunch.

According to Baldwards:

New contracts for Krafth and Dubs.

Contract talks with Schar are progressing.

We're in a "position of strength" going into the summer.

Little chance of any key players leaving.

Focus on signing young, emerging talent rather than established stars.

Wonder what happens with Pope if a new keeper comes in? Presume that would be him done if Dubs is staying?

I’d rather proven quality than imagination in all honesty. Or at least a mix of the two with heavy focus on the former.

We can’t be taking wild punts; just do what we’ve been doing thus far that’s brought us from relegation fodder to CL-place contenders. Let other teams with less lofty ambitions take the risks; we can’t afford many seasons without European football. Buying younger, proven stars with great attitudes who can grow with us (like Gordon, Bruno, Tonali, Botman, Livramento) has served us well. I don’t see why we’re desperate to be another Brighton?

People will say PSR etc.  but all of those players I’ve listed would go for double the amount we bought them for; we just don’t want to sell them.

The transfer approach makes sense if we are to keep our main men in the team.

Think we'll see players come in for much more reasonable/lower fees and wages to supplement the current squad.

I like the approach as I would like to see most of the current group kept together, and I think with the right additions to beef up the squad we could be right up there competing at a high level.
