One because he's not a very good footballer and the other because he's not a very good goalkeeper. Neither should be our number 1 keeper, but either of them could be number 2. Pope is a decent keeper like, might not be elite level, but most Premier clubs would be glad to have him. While I'm sure we'd like a top class keeper who can play the ball out better, I just don't think we'll spend the money it will take. We'll be prioritising other positions. Maybe if we can't land the RW or CB we might use it to buy a keeper instead.

The Prophet Posted yesterday at 17:11 Share Posted yesterday at 17:11 (edited) Hope reporting that we're finally signing Trafford this summer. "James Trafford’s proposed move to Newcastle is now expected to be completed without any hitches this summer. The Burnley goalkeeper had agreed to join last August only for the deal not to happen, much to the surprise and disappointment of some of those involved. However, sources have expressed extreme confidence this week of the transfer going through at the end of this season, with Trafford still set on St James’ Park. The 22-year-old is in the midst of an astonishing 11-match run without conceding a goal, moving beyond 1,000 minutes since he was last beaten. That run included a pair of penalty saves during a goalless draw with Sunderland last month, ingratiating himself with Newcastle supporters who are aware of their club’s interest in the Cumbrian. One complicating factor that had been mentioned was Manchester City’s buy-back clause. They sold the player to Burnley for £19million two years ago and it is thought a fee in excess of £40m was included as an option to re-sign him. But sources have played down the possibility of that being an issue and say all roads still lead to Tyneside, regardless of whether Burnley win promotion. They are currently third in the Championship table and five points behind second-placed Sheffield United. The fee discussed last summer was £16m and, while it will take more than that this time around, Trafford has only two years to run on his contract. Newcastle scouts have continued to watch the England Under-21 star extensively this season and his ball-playing attributes are seen as key to the team’s long-term evolution." Anything less than 20m and we are laughing all the way to the Premier League title.

Would assume we are in a decent position to spend if we are willing to spend a good amount on a keeper.

Kilcline Posted yesterday at 17:19 Share Posted yesterday at 17:19 Man City having an option on him is still a bit of a wildcard. You'd think they'd look at more of a "sure thing" signing anyway but with Ederson and Ortega both looking ropey means we could do with having this tied up sharp
Andy84 Posted yesterday at 17:19 Share Posted yesterday at 17:19 Sounds a bit of a gentleman’s agreement on Trafford. Burnley to keep him this season to help their promotion bid

joeyt Posted yesterday at 17:25 Share Posted yesterday at 17:25 I can't think of many promoted teams who lose their best/better players immediately after getting promotion unless they're in dire financial situation like Leciester (Dewsbury Hall) and Sheff Utd (Ndiaye) Might be misremembering
