NUFC Transfer Rumours

He’s decent but Villa fans question if he can hit the heights again after some bad injuries. And he’s another one who plays off the left.   In any other period I’d be for it but we’re going to have to use our budget smartly and there are too many areas more of a priority

I just don't think we know (anyone knows) what the budget is, we have never known really, or certainly not in terms of summer windows anyway. If we sign Ramsey and then don't get a right winger in for example then there'd be hell on (and rightly so) but if we go for him, i think he'll be in addition to the 3 key areas we need to strengthen as opposed to instead of.

Let's see anyway. 🤞🏼

He definitely doesn't, but we need to build a squad as well and you'd imagine at least one of our midfielders will move on this summer.

Exactly. We’ve done our PSR shite last window, having to buy a player for a complete none sporting reason. Ramsey wouldn’t be to that level but we need players who will only improve our first 11 in the positions that are key. When you get them the squad improves naturally

Yeah, that’s nonsense. We aren’t buying a midfielder that’s better than Joelinton, Bruno or Tonali. So you’d be happy with Willock or Longstaff coming off the bench or starting games if any injuries?

our bench options are largely terrible and I’m not against upgrading on them if we can afford it. Signing Ramsay wouldn’t be for non sporting reasons

You want someone who can challenge the 1st 11 - much like Barnes/Gordon but Ramsey doesn't do that for me.

We need depth too. Our bench is often poor compared to our opposition. Ideally Willock would be sold with Ramsey coming in.

I feel like depth is often overlooked in favour of selling, we can’t continue naming multiple goalkeepers and teenagers on our bench every game

I disagree. He was Challenging the first 11 for a very good Villa side. He’s a very good player. He’s better than what we’ve got outside our first 11 therefor improves us.

I’m not too invested in wether we sign him or not but we do need good options outside of the first 11

Where would you play him seeing as his predominant position is on the LW?

How much is Ramsey going to cost? 40m? For bench options, surely there is better value for money out there? Especially, as we have key areas we need to prioritise.

He’s played left midfield a lot rather than left wing like Gordon. If Howe signs him I’m sure he’ll have a plan for him but As I said I’m not arsed about Ramsay it could be any player. I’m arguing against the point that we should only be signing players that improve our first 11. We absolutely need a strong bench.

Aye, the hope is that we'd be buying a better bench this summer. Willock was fucking useless last season.

On Ramsey. He'd give us something completely different to Joelinton and can play out wide. He's also much better than and has a much higher ceiling vs Willock.

The snobbery to Premier League players is real.

he was a great bench option and sometimes starter for Villa in both a premier league season we only bettered on goal difference and in a fairly successful champions league campaign but not good enough for our bench apparently

Also “wait till Howe coaches” him - isn’t that the popular war cry on here whenever a player gets linked

Dont think there’s much snobbery to PL players here. Even though quite many seem to be pushing this agenda quite frequently. A bit weird tbh.

Its mostly because some are overpriced, or perhaps some people just like to discuss it and their opinion might be that player X ishouldnt be a priority, especially for the position/money.

I haven’t seen too many saying that he is shite? Personally I do rate Ramsey but I have question marks  regarding his reliability. He hasn’t been quite the same player as before, but that might just be temporarily.  I don’t want us to sign players unless we are as certain as possible that they super reliable like Tonali, Bruno and so on, or at least towards that. We can’t afford to take risks.

For example, I’ve seen plenty be against some PL players, but also the same people wanting JP for example. We are mostly linked with PL players so that might make some think we are against PL players because some don’t want some. If we were linked with as many from the outside I’m sure many would be against signing quite a few of them.

The reactions were similar when we were getting linked with/signing Barnes, Pope and Gordon too. Some people were even moaning about the Hall and Tino signings as they hardly played the 1st season they arrived.

Look how all of the above signings have turned out. Trust Eddie Howe ffs.

No credible source has linked us with him since last summer and he looks to have regressed over the last 12 months.

Only 2 league goals in 2 seasons and a poor injury record, not sure its snobbery that some are not that keen.

Depends who you count as credible, Ornstein? No, he hasn't linked us.

But Douglas, Waugh etc have. Possibly Edwards and Hope too (not 100% sure)

On transfer rumours, fuck me the whole of the North East media is doomed. Chronicle, Shields Gazette - absolutely lifting. Gone are the days you used to get the breaking news on the back page.
