What recent examples point to that?

Well for a start we seem to be linked with similar players - point in case Yohanna

4 weeks since the last game of the season

20 weeks since the closing of the January transfer window when we were told we were keeping our powder dry.

The most fundamental rebuild we've needed in years, and the absolute necessity to go early and decisively into the market.

The sales (and I'm saying this as it looks fairly certain that Tonali is off to Spuds) puts pressure on to have deals finalized sharpish. Otherwise we're back to last summer and overpaying for players way down on our preferred list. It's then less a question of who's the right fit and more who can we get in?

I'd love for us to replace Tonali with someone like Tyler Morton. Proper number 6 with wide range of passing. Lyon need the money too. Not at the WC could be done quickly.

That's a great shout . Cracking player who looked better than Anderson in the same under 21's side . Trouble is Ed don't like a number 6 .

Howe needs to adapt.

He has before but then was during a break from the game and before he came to us . I'm basing this on nothing but my own gut instinct and interpretation of his career but I've a feeling he can only reflect properly with a bit of distance .

Well, if he doesn’t he’ll be out a job to reflect soon enough

First choice keeper and shift pope

Right back

Left back

Left wing

Centre mid to replace Tonali

Is the bare minimum we need this window + more if we sell any of the likes of Murphy/Willock etc

Right wing is a massive weakness. Think that really needs looking at.

We will make zero progress with our right hand side.

It’s far too early to write off the summer, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t concerned.

Tonali potentially on his way to Tottenham. Gordon already gone. Two highly-rated young targets choosing Brighton and Liverpool. And the only arrival so far looking likely to be a backup goalkeeper.

Maybe things look very different in a month’s time. Hopefully they do.

But right now I’m struggling to see Newcastle as the particularly compelling project that many of us were hoping. If we’re selling our best players while simultaneously being turned down by some of our top targets, that’s not exactly a position of strength.

And if we’re honest, we probably don’t have a manager whose reputation alone is persuading elite talent to choose Newcastle over other major clubs either.

We finished 4th first with Miggy then with Murphy on the right mind.

The players playing RW now is nowhere near Almiron, wich says a fair bit.

He's got a break now.

Last game was 24th May, preseason due to start early/mid July. That's seven weeks to reflect, plan, whatever. Obviously couldn't do that last summer because he was also the de facto DOF.
