It's all part of a cycle that builds on the work of the great NE5:

 

1. Hypothesise about a past event, with hindsight and conjecture doing most of the heavy lifting.

2. A healthy debate breaks out.

3. Debate to a relentlessly tedious degree, until anyone who disagrees or points out obvious flaws, leaves to scream into a pillow or stick pins in their eyes.

4. Pat yourself on the back on a job well done.

5. Introduce a new theory, which frequently contradicts the previous one.
