Aiston
It's just insane we move Barnes over to the right when we bring Gordon on.
Optimistic Nut
It's getting weird. Gordon has played on the right, is more natural at knocking the ball past his full-back and crossing a ball, yet we're moving Barnes over. Newcastle Fan
Moving Barnes is really silly, he's been playing much better than Gordon and if anything Gordon offers similar to what Murphy does so don't see why we need to switch then.

Menace
He's not effective on the right and it's absolutely shit having to accommodate Gordon when Barnes deserves his position.
duo
Gordon is better than Barnes on the right so it makes sense for him to play there and leave Barnes on the left which is working so well. Basically nullifies Barnes sticking on the right and in the form he's in that makes no sense.
wyn davies
So my question is , are we shifting Gordon or Barnes in the summer ? based on I believe neither will want to be backups .
nemtizz
It won’t be an issue when we sign a top right winger. If we want to consistently compete every season we keep them both.
Oregon_Geordie
My only issue with Barnes has been his lack of effort covering back at times. Saying that with Tino, they have dovetailed really well - he certainly has far more control and clinical end product than Gordon, so he's won me over of late. Was shocked yesterday when Murphy (who has offered a struggling Trippier very little support all game) was replaced by the energy of Gordon, who does a lot of running back. Only to be switched with Barnes. One, losing your attacking threat down the left and two, placing Barnes in front of Trippier providing even less cover. Gordon needs to play right wing when he comes on. Edited April 20 by Oregon_Geordie

Qualify for the CL and neither is sold. 50-60 games next season. First attacker off the bench, first midfielder off the bench, 3rd CB etc. should be first team quality. Villa brought on Ramsey, Onana, Malen and Rashford which killed us off. Full strength we only have Gordon, Trippier and Botman of that quality off the bench. No. And if either phrase it like that we need to remind them what a CL squad looks like. Like someone said, Villa signing 3 top attackers in one January should be instructive. As others have mentioned, absolutely no need to be shifting either with the extra European games. However, I would like to see us find a way of effectively having them in the same 11, should we wish to.
Lush Vlad Posted Sunday at 15:34 Share Posted Sunday at 15:34 Despite no goal involvements. I thought that was one of his best all round performances for us. He was really bright and direct on both wings. Took up some nice positions centrally between the lines to receive the ball too.

janpawel
Villa wanting Barnes as a player makes sense, not going to get rashford on permanent But from an FFP sense, he will be 28 in December, not the ideal age to be giving out 5 year contracts, especially considering they're not doing well FFP wise
nufcjmc
Take one of ours we take one of theirs? Amortisation still a thing isn't it? Might suit both clubs just feel we need Barnes for rotation whe in Europe but sell when you can may be the clubs motto going forward.
