It's amazing how some players imediately get thrown back to "not good enough to start" even if they were one of the pivotal pieces of getting into the CL. That was only a few months ago.

It's likely been like that since football started. Certainly always been that way since I started going in the early/mid 80s.

We’ve only drawn away from home to a team that finished sixth last season, just losing out to us when we’ve had the weirdest summer going and have no striker yet they’ll be happier with the point then we were - don’t you realise it’s all finished for us now? (Hope I don’t need it but /s)

Meanwhile 50% of the isak thread is people trying so many angles to forgive Isak.

Do wonder if we're better off putting him in the middle (until a proper striker comes in). Gordon is far better on the left, but Barnes is a much better finisher

He was no more culpable than the rest today, and I don't even think the rest were bad per se.

 

We just look like a strong side missing a focal point and I hope we are working tooth and nail to get someone in.

He was trying to make things happen, but the more involved in a game he is, the less effective he seems to be as he seems to increasingly try to force the issue. 

 

It doesn't help when you have no focal point up front either obviously, their defenders knew that crossing the ball was his worst option today, so they just congested his route cutting-in.

it's not about forgiving the cunt. It's about seeing him as a prized asset. To not see that appears irrational to me. He's not the first player to pull this shit and lose.

I’d do this, Gordon can’t play CF but he is more dangerous across a game than Barnes from LW. Don’t think Barnes loses that much from his game by playing centrally as a striker, provided he can get a yard of space. His game is essentially get a yard of space and then rifle in a stunner. Surely there’s a way to make it work for him in the CF role currently over any other option we have

Kind of embarrassing that szoboszlai has had him in his pocket all of that first half. Barnes just didn't know what to do when Szob blocked the inside channel. He's not even a defender you knacker.
