80
https://www.theguardian.com/football/2024/nov/12/england-nations-league-lewis-hall-audition-thomas-tuchel-newcastle After about ten paragraphs you get some decent quotes from him. Lads, he's a Ben Arfa fan Interesting that he says he arrived expecting to play a lot more last season. Sounds like he's done really well to fight through that difficult period last season. One does not simply walk into an Eddie Howe team.
The College Dropout
Lad says he thinks he can play in midfield. Some of you think it’s akin to playing Schar in midfield. It ain’t.
JEToon
He does say he can play in midfield, but he does say a fair bit more than that and I would be inclined to agree with him. “I feel I could play in midfield if the manager wanted me to,” Hall says. “I did in pre-season but as a career I feel I have more ability at left-back then in midfield. The way we play at Newcastle really suits my game. The full-backs are really involved. I get loads of the ball in good areas. I like to get forward, so when I am building from the back and getting into the final third, I like to do that and create chances.”

Didn’t realise Tuchel gave Hall his debut at Chelsea - feels like it was years ago since he was there with how quickly they go through managers! It ain’t. I mean he can't and anyone he can't is incorrect. That being said our left back options other than him aren't great so it shouldn't be a consideration. Guybrush
Everyone knows if a defender can pass the ball well, they are automatically also a great midfielder. Just look at Schar, Coloccini, Perch etc. It even works the other way around with Strikers. Just look at Alan Smith, Joelinton etc. Spoiler

The College Dropout
He clearly thinks he could at some point. He's mentioned it before. With his skill set and age I think it’s a viable option in a way that it isn’t for a player like Schar.

JEToon
I think his assessment of himself and midfield is bang on, he probably could play in midfield, and be good at it, but he isn’t just having his career to be good. You only have to look at us as a point of reference for him and midfield. Hall is really good technical football player, but he isn’t as good as Bruno. Hall is a better technical football player than Longstaff, but he isn’t the athlete or build Sean is when it comes to the workhorse role in midfield. I just couldn’t imagine Hall being able to run a game like Sandro did against, Chelsea, and that is only applicable to us before moving into the idea of breaking into the England squad and the competition at that level. What I do think you can look at is him being our and England’s LB for 10 years, and a really excellent one. It is the far more logical career path for him. He also as he’s referred do does on occasion have to step in and likely does more midfield ball work than Longstaff does when Longstaff plays with him. khay
Hall is one of those that would have been a Left Midfield in the past similar to Beckham and getting crosses into the box.

54
This quote is why I think Howe was ultimately right by not playing him the majority of last season: Quote Howe did not want to expose Hall too soon in a ‘sink or swim’ scenario. It is better to fit a player with armbands, especially one so young, rather than watch them drown.

Eddie knaa's . It was just so off. I was convinced we were avoiding the conditions to have to buy him. he looks absolutely class now. I rewatched the weekend game and I think he lost the ball twice. His changes of pace in defence either gave us nice possession or put in the offensive a few times. He still needs to work a bit stopping crosses but that’s near impossible to get 100% so maybe I’m being harsh.
