We looked second best for long periods tonight..Pope made a couple of mint saves.... but come on man... we've just gone to the San Siro and took yem a share of the points... we are happier than them.

Or should be...

Fuck me. Bottom of the league almost 2 years ago. Competing with Europe's elite now.

Think it'll develop a real shit or bust attitude in the back 3 games. We have the least to lose too. At home, I hope and half expect us to blow them away with intensity. Tonight felt a little like we'd allow them to have it to some degree. If we apply the pressure we did to say Spurs and Brighton at home last season we will beat all 3 teams at home.

Worked for us last time - we lost the first three group games in 02/03 without scoring.  Still ended canny well :)

Good result but fucking hell were we shite on the ball. Was basically the Man  City away performance all over again, but just without the opposition getting the goal.

The away games in this group are going to be a nightmare for all teams in the group tbf, mind.

I think that was the toughest one tbh, watch Dortmund prove me wrong.

I think what we're missing is a bit of faith. Almost like as a club we are capable of being plucky underdogs but completely uneasy at being expected to win. Permanently expecting the "Ah that's just our luck" or the "Ah that's us all over" moment, myself included. Need to change our mentality.

I'll say one thing, I felt like the game was going a lot better when I just watched it and didn't follow it on here

I truly believe there is something very badly wrong with the reactions of many people on this forum.

In the flesh, apart from 25 mins in the first half, that felt to me like a very pleasing performance. Would I have liked more attacking threat? Yeah of course. But in person, the San Siro is an immense atmosphere (far out shadows anything I’ve seen at St James’) so to come away with a solid 65 mins of football and a draw is something to be really proud of.

Ok, my honest opinion. Absolutely delighted with a point away at the San Siro against last years semi-finalists in the CL.

I think some of our players were a little pressurised in the circumstance of the game and never really settled. No real complaints though about any of them.

That said, as much as I love Burn and Pope I would love a keeper who was good with his feet as Pope is saving shots, It seems so important these days. And I really would like a left back with genuine recovery pace and positional sense. No disrespect to Burn but he can both be slow and caught out of poition (recovery wise-linked to pace I guess).

Hopefully the capture of Lewis Hall solves that sooner than later...

Think it was a great result tbh, one point on the board (away from home in Europe) means we can't be adrift at the bottom of the group. Onward and upwards boys...

Couldn't give a flying fuck about the performance tonight. Good result and just loads of fun to be part of again.

yeah it’s unbelievable to read some of what’s been posted on here and elsewhere. Not just tonight btw.

im not saying Howe or the team are above criticism but howay remember where we were 2 years ago to the day.

to anyone whose not experienced this before enjoy it. And if you can go, go. We had already booked up for psg but have decided tonight to drive to Dortmund and booked accommodation in Bochum (ibis) a couple of us have 400 points plus but the other lads will just watch in bars.

It just shows the progress we have made in such a short space of time that some fans are disappointed with a draw away to AC Milan.

I don't think there are many who are disappointed with the result, just the performance. If we had lost that match 2-0 or 3-0 (like the xG indicated) with that same performance there would be people calling for Howe's head.

We have fans that would be disappointed if we won the CL final by 1 - 0 as they’d say it wasn’t convincing enough.

I don’t think people would be calling for his head. My analysis of the match doesn’t change considerably because of the result.  Had Leao scored his header late on  - Schar, Bruno, Botman, Pope still had great games. And we still looked susceptible defensively whenever Milan could string a few passes together.

Obviously not the majority but few lost souls who are now praising this result.

Well then whoever those people are are fucking idiots.

Every NUFC fan in that stadium tonight came away thinking that was overall a very positive night. It was the San Siro against one of the best teams in the world in one of the hardest atmospheres in the world. Of course we would be under the cosh for large portions of the game… we’re fundamentally not as good as them and lack their experience of the big stage.

What we showed was a really dogged performance, especially second half. Be fucking proud.

Unfortunately there was a lot of people that predicted this last year saying if we didn’t do it again then some would go into meltdown. We’re a victim of our own success in that way. The start of this season was always going to test us but now we’re through the worst we just need to push on and pick up momentum.

Because we got a point. Same performance but a loss and 100% guarantee there would be people telling you how Howe got schooled at the big stage and might have reached his limit.

I’m very happy with the point and proud of the fight and determination shown by the team but still think it was a really poor performance. We lose that match 8-9 times out of 10 despite the odds being pretty much even before the match had started.

Very happy with a point. For all they had the better of it their chances were largely from distance or straight at Pope, its not like he had to make a worldie at any point. I really only think the Leao brain fart was a nailed on goal that wasn't.

While I'm on has Loftus Cheek ever been booked ? Is he allowed to just foul and foul and foul and foul ( we counted 8 blatants)  without being booked.

Poor performance for 25 mins, I agree. The rest of the game was a dogged, solid display on the biggest stage.

Though even in those 25 mins, I thought most of Milan’s chances were speculative apart from the Giroud one and the stupid back heel one, and then a great save from Pope from the corner. So 3 good chances.

Again, I don’t know why it needs re-enforcing, but you’re talking about an away game at the San Siro, in that atmosphere, as if it’s an away game against Luton town.

Milan are fucking good. They were always going to get some good chances and they were always going to come out and try to rectify their poor performance at the weekend. Other than that 25 minute spell, and that header at the end, I genuinely believe it was an impressive defensive away performance from us, with obvious room for improvement in attack/possession.

You're talking like we are Luton Town. ;)

I said many of the same things that you've said earlier, we were doing a decent job keeping them away from really good chances and improved on the second half. Just disappointed how we failed to create anything against a team that just shipped five goals couple of days ago. Hope it was just nerves and confident we look better at home.
