What is a pre-contract agreement and when can players sign one?

A pre-contract allows clubs to get ahead with their recruitment, with a player and an interested club able to commit to a move before that player’s current deal expires.

Talks can begin up to six months before a contract expires — meaning January 1 is a key date for the many players whose deals end on June 30 — but only with teams other than the one the player concerned is currently registered with (their parent club if presently out on loan).

Domestic transfers are regulated by each country’s football association as opposed to world governing body FIFA — and in a further restriction, the English FA cuts longer pre-contract timeframes in a bid to avoid conflicts of interest in the event a player might face their future club before leaving their current one.

Any player looking to move from one English team to another as a soon-to-be free agent can only open talks a month before their contract expires.

Jack said he’d drink Messi’s piss if the transfer doesn’t go through.

I’m sure it was messy piss.

Well, he either ends up as the next Nesta or he’s collectively deemed shit and hated by NO for choosing another club.

Over to you, Tosin.

It’ll be interesting to see how much business Chelsea can do this summer. They must be close to breaking current ffp rules and they’re being investigated for ffp breaches under Abramovich.

He would be a great signing but I’ve got the feeling he’ll go to Chelsea or Spurs.

Is he actually that good? I mean I know he'd be a free transfer but what sort of fee could Fulham have realistically asked for if he still had a couple of years on his contract?

£20-30m I guess, can’t really comment on his ability but makes a ton of sense as a depth option.

Don’t think Spurs are that relevant, doubt he wants to sit behind Romero and the fastest CB ever.

Not very much, unless they sell.
Then there is the issue of the PL still to approve the sales of the hotel to a related party. They didn’t get it pre approved as fair market value so it’s under the microscope and still un approved, so PSR might bite them.

Him, Kelly & Ndidi all for free would do wonders for the squad like.

Ndidi wouldn’t, he’s been awful for years.

We could have done with him this season as a dmc. He's nowhere near as bad as you are making out. Useful player to have available to us.

He rarely plays as a DMC nowadays tbh.

That hotel sale, for 70 mil, from Chelsea to Todd fucking Boely, is dodgy as fuck.

Imagine any other PL team outside the Sky 6 doing that.

From the Mail:

"However, Adarabioyo is said to be aware of how Newcastle would see his role at St James’ Park and, according to sources, he could be leaning towards a move to the North-East, especially given the prospect of working under a coach like Eddie Howe."

Adarabioyo and Kelly are both playing for mid table teams. It makes perfect sense to get them if we are aspiring for mid table, but not so much if we want top four.....

Yikes! So incredibly simple minded.

Good thing we never signed that Gordon kid from relegation battling Everton. Would have been a disaster.

Or the gaffer. Mid table and lower table. Terrible mistake.

Ah, here we go again.. Remember last window when the opinion was that we should've bought less and more expensive players instead? Yeah, we've been playing Krafth and Matt Ritchie this season. Lets put our entire budget on 2 players and end up playing Ritchie and Krafth again, because we need elite players only!
