Lloyd Kelly

I might be wrong but I feel like traditionally clubs who sell players they got on a free often sell at a cheaper price than what they otherwise would have. I haven't got any examples to back that up.

The real issue is that if one of our CBs gets a long term injury and we've sold Kelly, we are back into crisis mode. It's a complete unnecessary risk... unless we can replace him.

If Krafth back soon, it’s 4 CBs. That should be manageable, can’t turn down good bids for 5th option in the rare case 3 get injured. Just too much short term thinking which got us into the PSR mess.

Feels like now we’re thinking bit more long term, engineering moves out ready for some opportunistic June business.

He's a player who was valued above 20m before he became a free agent.

Plenty of time for him to improve, but he really only managed to fill a Dan Burn subs bench shaped hole (who in turn was filling a Botman shaped hole) since he's joined.

It's hard to imagine him getting above that. I'd probably even have a fully fit Lascelles ahead of him so if he can move on for a tidy sum then so be it.

Six and two threes, until it comes to selling the player. The one on 50K can be sold easier, and the free transfer can't be. Personally wouldn't piss about with free transfers if I was an owner.

Yeah that's a good point.

If we'd signed him for ~£12m and he was on £50k a week it shouldn't be less of a problem because Bournemouth got the money instead of him. Players who run down their contracts nigh on always get paid more because they have that leverage don't they.

Makes a hell of a difference when you need to shift or renew a player…

I would accept anything over £10m. He’s the sort of player we could find ourselves trying to loan out in a year or 2 and struggling to shift.

Why? He's only 25 and I don't buy that Howe would have let him come here if he was a dud.

I just don’t see him playing much and we could do with the money. Burn and Botman are ahead of him at LCB, and Hall has nailed down LB. Minutes are going to be limited and value goes down with the inactivity. Right now Targett and Alex Murphy can probably cover his role in the squad.

Also I can’t say I rate him much so far.

I think there's a lot of value on being the right age bracket right now with the PSR restrictions, if we are going to sell we can definitely do it on our terms.

Maybe so. But your team mates will rightfully use that as leverage in their own negotiations.

Probably not a good idea to sell a player in January who has played 10+ games for us already. Not sure if we have enough time to use the funds wisely.

I do have a counter example to your first paragraph though: the time Rangers got Boumsong for free and sold him to us for £8M six months later
