Yorkie Posted Wednesday at 11:03 Share Posted Wednesday at 11:03 Generally I hate the idea of having to sell our quality depth players (jury is out I suppose but I'm sure there's a good player in there); but if there's a chance to turn an instant profit then it sounds appealing. Aye, if we aren’t for whatever reason able or willing to get in loads of sponsors, and we don’t want to sell our star players then deals like this make sense. Especially considering no one wants the likes of miggy.

We get it, free transfer but that does distort the wage structure. Hall will be wanting a new contract soon, he'll look at Kelly and say he needs to be paid more. Schar & Burn probably earn less. I worried for Villa when they did that with Tielemans & Kamara. But Kamara was a key player and Tielemans effectively replaced the player who would want the bigger contract (Douglas Luiz) to become a key player. Kelly isn't going to become a key player for us. Pretty much everywhere you look tbh. Googled "Newcastle wages by player". Of the first five results. https://m.aiscore.com/salary/team-newcastle-united-fc-2j374oiy4nirqo6 https://www.spotrac.com/epl/newcastle-united-fc/cap/_/year/2024 https://www.capology.com/club/newcastle/salaries/ https://www.goal.com/en/lists/newcastle-united-wages-best-paid-player-magpies-salary-bill/blt31dfaa58f0b58df0#csd2350432da835ebd They all say 150k https://salarysport.com/football/premier-league/newcastle-united-f.c./ This one says 39k. It's not entirely unreasonable to believe we offered him a big salary as he was a free, but 150k seems incredibly steep. We do appear to have given Targett 100k a week though so who knows. Maggies Posted Wednesday at 12:15 Share Posted Wednesday at 12:15 Should we sell Kelly - I’m ok with him staying as a decent squad player Should we sell Kelly to free up some PSR room so we can invest - yes definitely

Likelylad Posted Wednesday at 12:21 Share Posted Wednesday at 12:21 So we're saying they've given him 10k a week less than Bruno and 30k more than Isak? If we have that's genuinely abysmal from the club. We nearly breached PSR and then go give a squad player top tier wages. Nah i just can't see it. Sibierski Posted Wednesday at 12:48 Share Posted Wednesday at 12:48 I’d like to think Kelly wages are lower with bonuses. So like if we plays, clean sheet, win it’s getting to £150k pw, but base more around £100k which is still very dumb for a squad filler. Can’t remember what the timeline was for him and Tosin, but if Tosin was off to Chelsea when we were still in talks, did it make us get scared and cave to the higher demands to ensure same didn’t happen again? Who verified it? Talksport, Sky Sources, the club, Kelly's agent, Kelly himself I can entertain the idea we may have overpaid a bit and perhaps not coughed up the usual large signing on fee. But balanced it out with a better salary than he was expecting. But for him to more than likely be our second highest earner? Absolute horse shit. I spoke with a couple of ex-pros once. Albeit ones that mainly played before the Sky billions fully came into the game and filtered down across the board. They said a lot of the wages that are reported are exactly as you say above. Like it's the total they will earn if all the relevant criteria is hit. Like win bonuses, clean sheet, scoring, starting games etc. Performance related stuff like that. Of course I'm not saying every contract is like that or that it is still the case. But it would make more sense.
KingArthur Posted Wednesday at 13:06 Share Posted Wednesday at 13:06 Those "verified" are total bullshit. Luis Diaz has a low salary there because of translation error for ecample. Still it says "verified" even though it's verified to be BS

He'll have been bought with the expectation that he'll be a fairly important member of the squad, challenging to be first choice LB from the start and being a versatile squad member. Given that we didn't pay a transfer fee, it's not an outrageous outlay in terms of the overall deal for the role we were buying him for.

PL experienced defender who has versatility across the back line and could probably start in many lower half PL teams. Much as we need money on the books for PSR, he's got to be worth at least £20m to someone.
Pilko Posted Wednesday at 13:51 Share Posted Wednesday at 13:51 If we can squeeze them to nearer £20m this sounds like it could potentially be a useful PSR exercise.
