It seems to be a recurring theme with us at the minute us bidding for players we want but aren't willing to stump up the cash to get them.

I don't understand why we are in for him first if we need other positions sorted beforehand.

I think most clubs do this apart from Chelsea and City.

Why insist getting him now if we can get him for free next season ?

It's not that Pope is unreliable or something.

Additionally, we can monitor how he did in PL at least until Jan, minimize the risks.

We can also give him higher wage due to free transfer status.

Win win for us and trafford. It will be palace to loose In this scenario.

And we all kept pointing out how we were much better with Tonali in the side.

Trafford has to start number 1. I maintain you can’t bring in a GK for £30m, a position you can’t bring them on with 20 to go, and them just warm the bench. Especially one on the back of an absolute high of a season and full of confidence.

People will say Howe gets things correct, but he does get things wrong and not starting Trafford would be one.

Completely disagree - this whole let’s all jump on Pope because he can’t kick is tiresome, he’s a bloody good keeper and people may just see that if he gets dropped. Burnley stayed up for years, sell pope and can’t stay up since.

Because someone else will buy him now

It's like buying a house

You can research the market, find a property you like and make a sensible offer but that doesn't automatically mean that the owners are obliged to sell it to you

And the powers that be at NUFC will know why we're in for Trafford first, there could be many reasons and mark my words, no-one on this here forum will know what those reasons are

Part of buying successfully is buying at the right time, this involves taking calculated risks. If he stayed at Burnley and carried on like he did last season he’d quickly become a £60/70m player and Man Utd, City, Arsenal would be sniffing round.

It was either Trafford Garcia or Chevalier if we want to lock off the position for 5 years minimum. Right age and experience. Garcia has gone and in a way perhaps he would have gone to one of the big teams eventually so good it’s happened now. But Trafford in theory lived in the North, was in Man City, Burnley, Bolton plus knows many of the u-21 guys like Tino Hall and Gordon so can see him being an excellent fit. Get him now even at 30m and you won’t have to worry about it again. It’s a Hall Tino type of purchase neither of which were high priorities at the time but makes a lot of sense in hindsight.

It annoys me how every report seems to suggest we are surprised at asking prices for our targets. We will have already know this weeks ago.

It's journalists filling column inches/needing clicks.

A lot of it is guesswork just to keep the clicks coming in.

Aye, that’s what I was trying to say but worded it badly.
