We used to be one of the best scouters and developers of young goalkeepers in the country, just off the top of my head we have gotten and developed Given, Harper, Krul, Forster, Woodman, Alnwick, Gillespie - yes that is quite a range but demonstrates an output which is much superior than any other position we have developed players in.

Now our youth keepers are so inferior we have to have players like Ruddy, The Greek, Gillespie instead of our youth keepers just to keep up the standards of outfield training.

we have had to bring back one of our old GK coaches back on a part time basis to coach to goalkeeping coaches.

basically Ashley gutted what was historically an excellent goalkeeping department.

where am I going? Basically I am not convinced that we have yet to build up a good enough goalkeeper coaching department and I’m uncertain Trafford would reach his potential. Bad for him, bad for us.

if much prefer us to be looking at 26-28 year old established goalkeepers.

 Make sure you don't pull a muscle stretching on those last two, mate.

I did consider and reconsider listing those last three but they were all developed to an extent that they are all millionaires which is still good even though they didn’t get right to the top.

3*

I was tempted but it felt harsh lumping him in with the other two as an established Champ 'keeper. But then it completely passed me by that Alnwick has been in the Champ the past 3 years too.. Albeit he just led Cardiff to relegation.

Gillespie and Alnwick being used as evidence we used to be one of the best scouters and developers of young keepers in the country is pretty rich mind. [emoji38] Even Given tbh - he was a 21 year old already part of the full Irish squad and had PL experience when we bought him. Multiple sides were interested. We got him because Kenny knew him from Blackburn and we were the 2nd best team in the country back then.

Flekken moving from Brentford to Leverkusen for between 8 million and 11 million.

Kelleher moving from Liverpool to Brentford for between 12.5 million and 18 million.

Any reason Trafford's market value would be much higher than those?

Young and English and his name doesn't sound like queef fan.

Kelleher was one year left and Flekken’s 31.

Whilst we’re rubbishing our previous keepers, I never rated Harper. Used to remember people saying if he wasn’t second to Given he’d be England’s number one. Never in a million years

Yep. There's only so many players who can make a difference at that level, that's why the ones at the top will pay stupid wages to get their signatures.

It's also about trying to secure a sure thing that can be great straight away. But there are players that can be got for cheap. Raphinha went to Rennes for £20m and didn't light it up by the looks of it. Went to Leeds for a similar fee.

We got Minteh for £8m, qaudrupled his value in 12 months. Morgan Rogers has 8x his fee in 18 months.

There is talent out there but the risk is high. And there's going to be Isak's & Bruno's that are highl touted that other teams don't end up going for and that's our chance.

Pickford cost £30m around 8 years ago.

Crazy really. Considering how consistent he's been over the last 3/4 years it's surprising he hasn't got a "big" move. Spurs or maybe Man United could've done alot worse considering.

I don’t think we’ve had a really top keeper apart from Given. Would include Pope as well in modern times.
