Ornstein mentioned that the mooted deal was meant to be dcl @mid to high 30’s with Minteh at low to mid 30’s.

Absolutely mental price for someone in the last year of his deal.

I’m on the bus with those who said it was overinflated and we got cold feet because the Cartel / EPL Narks started squealing. Possibility we revisit this I reckon.

That’s how I read what he said too. That being said as things stand the PL had no rules covering these kind of deals as fas as I’m aware.

As much as I dislike myself for saying this but the proposed nature of the deal means inflated prices make sense for both parties.

If so, I wonder why it fell apart.

I think it’s covered under their generic catch-all rule of “acting in good faith”. Same one ironically we could use to nail Ashworth to the cross for his email leaks to Ineos Utd.

Even more so if we could use it to inflate “Fair Market Value” for a Wilson sale to Saudi.

I very much doubt it as it’s impossible to prove we weren’t. Minteh is a hot young prospect with multiple suitors and DCL is a player we’ve been linked with for awhile.

@SUPERTOON I wonder if DCL’s demand were the block as he’s on his last year and might be looking for a big final payday elsewhere.

I wonder how many clubs would fail the acting in good faith test over the years?

Us mainly.

Need to can the fuck out of any further discussions about DCL now that Minteh is off to Brighton. Leave Everton to get themselves out of their own hole

With Wilson now seemingly all but knackered, and January being Everton’s last chance to get any kind of fee for Calvert-Lewin, I wonder…

Granted, it seems his wage demands were what scuppered any chance of it happening in the summer, but if we feel like we won’t have Wilson for much of the rest of the season, and his wages will be gone in the summer anyway, we could potentially be more flexible in that regard.

And before anyone says ‘rEpLaCiNg oNe cRoCk wItH aNoThEr’, DCL has missed one league game (through illness) since September last year.

And how many has he scored in that period of time ?

A cf is exactly where we need to be going abroad for.

DCL has premier league experience but his stats do not tally to his price tag

His price tag will be very little with his contract up the summer, it his wages that would potentially be the issue.

I don't even want DCL as I think we can be smarter in the market.

However, you cannot overlook the team he plays for and how that impacts his performance. Especially now he has checked out completely as he is no longer wanting to stay there.

Reminds me of how poor a goal threat Wood looked for us, and so many thought it was hilarious Forest paid what they did for him. And now not so funny.

Nine in the league. But Everton.

Yeah I hear that, just not sure he's worth the crazy wages we already turned him down for. He'd be another player signed with no resale value which is really bad when you need to player trade.

Does he have to be offered more or would he take the best offer even if it meant less than  he's currently on ?
