Will Osula

Did look well suited for the howe high press. Question remains on real end product but was positive

Tbh if he had the end product he'd be steal of the season. Given a bit more exposure he might not be too far off from producing it, he looks like he's got an eye for goal, just needs the polish that comes with playing regularly.

Saturday did see Osula used in a different role. With Wilson through the middle, the youngster replaced Jacob Murphy on the right. With no January replacement for Miguel Almiron, there is an opportunity for Osula to fill that void until at least the summer window.

“Will is a multi-talented player. I don’t see him just being a pure number nine," Howe said last month. "He has played wide before so that is an option that we could look at.

“I think he’s doing well. He’s on track. He is developing. Looking at him as a striker, he’s competing with Alex [Isak] for a place, which isn’t something you necessarily want to be doing at the minute with Alex’s form.

“I said this to Will when he joined. He’s learning off two of the best strikers that he could possibly work with currently and he needs to absorb as much information from both Alex and Callum [Wilson]. Two great role models for him to help him in his development. He’s very much here at the moment. Beyond this season, we’ll try to take the next steps that benefit Will and us.”

Newcastle supporters have had to be patient with Osula.

Worth the wait, great to see him developing and getting game time.

Happy we went down this route and not the DCL or Solanke option.

Looks like a young Solanke in style. Also reminds me a bit of Collymore with his head down running and shooting of both feet.

Was hoping to see more of his aerial ability but not much in the clips.

I’d be very surprised if he’s loaned out this season as I think he’ll get minutes. Probably as soon as the opening fixture judging by Wilson’s availability.

I still get Collymore Vibes off him. Probably more explosive actually but maybe not as cute. He’s raw but sometimes that appeals to me watching a player as you get to see them develop in front of you.

Really high hopes for this lad, if we can get Isak to sign a new contract I can maybe see the sense in giving Wilson another year so we can use our money in other areas

NEIN NEIN NEIN NEIN NEIN NEIN NEIN!

Just not enough cover in that scenario. We really could do with someone who can play as a CF and another position, ideally on the right and is proven to be at least strong PL standard doing both. Easier said than done. Mbeumo is the obvious one but he’d cost an absolute bomb.

It is a fair point hah. Yes he had end product on Saturday didnt mean to imply otherwise, but just needs consistency. As Wilson cannot be relied upon our main backup to Isak is either Gordon as striker (which negates some of his strengths imo but he can do it a bit) or this guy and it's hard to know if he consistently will score goals. It's merely one good game of creating chaos doesnt feel enough yet.

Could be snatching at chances somewhat because he's not playing regularly so not getting a chance to get in his groove. He was in a great position to get another in the second half on Saturday if Murphy had squared it, so he is getting in the right areas.
