Also on the Gordon penalty, and I could be wrong about this, but those scenarios don’t seem that common anymore. 1v1’s then the keeper wiping out the striker for a pen used to be every week 10+ years ago. They don’t seem as common as they used to be and it’s probably due to how the game has changed. Dyer used to get two 3 1v1s a match and miss most of them [emoji38]

Just watched the highlights on Newcastle's website and that period of play where Joelinton should have got the penalty, Barnes had the chance on the right hand side and Tonali and Grealish had there tussle was fantastic. Shame it had to end with one of the worst crosses you'll see from Tonali [emoji38]. Some really good football from us and something to now build on for the coming games.

Just remembered De Jong breaking HBA’s leg as well. Fucking prick.

And October 2015, Mitrovic having a perfectly fine goal disallowed for offside, which would've put us 0-2 up deservedly at the Etihad. Instead we collapsed and lost 6-1.

Used to be an automatic red card for the keeper too

One of a few good changes to the rules, would have been ridiculous to get sent off for that. Would have meant us getting a penalty, their keeper being sent off and a suspension and them having to make a sub to get a keeper on. Always hated that rule

Just finished watching the full replay on the app. Few takeaways.

Hall had a great game, seems to be growing and gaining confidence.

Tonali should be in the XI for every league game. No question!

Nice to see some of the qualities Trippier offers to the team on show again!

Gordon completed the Great North Run in record time.

There was even an element of our shithousing back just not quite as blatant as previously.

This level or thereabouts needs to now remain, then when Isak drops back in we can steamroll some teams! Well done Howe and the team for performing.

Honestly thought atleast some of the improvement came from swapping out Isak. He just cant press like Gordon did up there.

Yep, the double punishment thing is one of the few times the rule makers have actually applied some common sense.

My only slight concern is that it's taken us 6 games and an elite opponent to finally look like we're bothering our arses. Hopefully we can keep this up but we cannot pick and choose when to give our all like this. We must be better against shite like Southampton, Fulham and Wolves otherwise those narrow wins will turn into more draws/losses. Not sure how we can be so poor against Fulham one week and then put in one of our best performances in 12 months the next week. Hopefully we've turned a corner, we've almost got the perfect game in the league next to find out.

Crowd makes a huge difference (wew hot take); they just don’t seem as up for it at home against “lesser” opposition which probably doesn’t help.

Really?

Our home form is fine and crowd has played a part in it for the last 3 years

It's the away form that needs criticising and that's down to the players and coaches

As much as our home atmosphere gets criticised by ourselves, it’s still better than almost all other grounds. I get annoyed by it but it’s worth putting it into perspective. Our away form like Joey says is the problem and has been for over 12 months. I’m sure a lot of work is going in to try and remedy it but it’s odd how stark the difference is

I feel this myself but I just think our crowd is more responsive than ‘always on’. We discussed that when we were talking about if we need a European style ultras section that just sings constantly no matter the situation.

Personally I’m much happier with a crowd that responds to the events in the game more directly, I think that’s more the English culture. But the downside is it does lead to some quiet periods.

Don’t think ultras work in the English game, look at Palaces fake attempts, their ultras look like S Club 7 with that little drum.
