Newcastle United 4-0 Leicester City (14/12/24)

Fun game

Still maintain that Murphy is bobbins [emoji38] Isak drew three/four defenders several time and laid it on a platter for the guy and he just walloped it wide

Hard to analyse when the opposition are that bad, but impressive and dominant nonetheless. Drink it in. Only minor complaint is that we maybe could have tried to work on our goal difference. Only saw the second half like, but fuck it:

Dubravka: 7

Livramento: 7

Schär: 7

Burn: 8.5

Hall: 10

Tonali: 8

Bruno: 7.5

Joelinton: 7

Murphy: 9

Isak: 9

Gordon: 8.5

Define 'orchestrator' without saying 'orchestrator'.

He's absolute quality.

Can't wait him.to be linked with everyone in the summer.

I mean it's already begun... 😅

Wonderful performance. Just what we needed to get a bit of a buzz going again

Takeaways for me:

- Sandro has to start every game in the middle of the 3, he's great there and Bruno is able to make some fantastic passes through to Isak and Gordon.

- When Gordon is on it, the whole team looks better. He was unplayable today going forward and back. Whatever we have to do to get the best out him regularly has to be prioritised - has to start every game on the left.

- Lewis Hall is fucking incredible. So young too. What a player.

- Quite telling that Burn got the armband instead of Trippier, and Tripps didn't take any of our set pieces. He's gone in Jan imo. Shame it's ended how it has because he was a transformational signing when we needed it most.

- Our attacking set pieces were brilliant, some really clever moves and I'm so happy to see us get 2 goals from them.

Don't want to get too carried away as Leicester were really bad, I do think a lot of that was down to us being so good though. Completely smothered them.

Roll on Brentford. 4 points off 4th and in the semis of the league cup before we play Ipswich would be lovely stuff.

Long time since we had a performance like that.

We were on it from the first whistle and played with purpose.

Aye Leicester were shite but generally when a team is shite it has a lot to do with their opponents being good enough to take advantage and make them look that way. Plenty of games over the last year we've gone up against teams who were nothing special but we've let them grow into the game and find a foothold. Didn't happen today.

Tonali at DM looks transformational for us, he does everything with such purpose and tempo.

Come on man he was imperious back there today.

I think the fact that we where barely troubled weirdly counted against him, as he wasn't noticeable. Which is actually a really good thing

Gordon resurrection after 4 months of mediocre shows, aggressive showing all over the pitch, a clean sheet, lots of chances.

Still I'm sort of reserving judgment, because Leicester were toothless, absolutely caved and let us do what we wanted.

Need to see that showing on Wednesday to understand if we're finally turning the corner, because Brentford won't bottle it like Leicester.

I know this is sarcasm, but it's been good to see us taking a few short instead of floating balls into the penalty area to watch Burn loop his header into the sky.

Murph 9? You’re meant to be slagging him off - read the room (sarcasm by the way as I think a 9 is fair)

So I'm normally Mr positive pants, and while I'm buzzing that we smashed them up, there was still the odd moment where they had me scratching my head.... mainly from being sloppy on the ball, especially in the first half. We also missed a hat full of chances.

However 9 goals in 3 games means we've got our goal threat back, which is crucial if we are going to be so open. Tonali being DM will only get better. Bruno being 8 will only get better.

A RW who is as devastating as Gordon is on the left and a CB with real pace and physicality on transitions and we are in a good spot.

This is where I am with it as well, Leicester are the perfect team for us to play against as they're completely incapable of putting out a solid defensive performance and they don't really have much in transition. They've conceded something like 75 shots in 3 games now.

However, there were definitely positives today in the energy levels and attacking intent, and that wasn't all down to the opposition.

Hard to know what to make of that , easy win but Leicester are so bad it doesn't really tell us a lot .

We really need to follow this up with a run of good performances to make up for those sloppy points dropped in the last few games.
