Manchester United 0-2 Newcastle United (30/12/24)

Froggy, I'm honestly not gloating, I just need your opinion/judgement.

What did the genuine Man Utd fans think of last night's match.

Man Utd performance and who did well/poor.

Newcastle performance and who did well and poor.

Be free to expand on that.

Every single one of us was thinking the same so leave him alone.

For the benefit of new posters, a handy rule of thumb is that if this total parody agrees with you, you've gone down a dodgy path.

I can't speak for us all, but in my opinion the first half hour is maybe the worst I've ever seen us play. For the Tonali shot against the post, you literally walked it in. It was embarrassing.

Was impressed with Newcastle, but not at all surprised against that midfield.

Think Mainoo made things harder for you, and he didn't give Tonali and Bruno G the same freedom and it was a bit tougher for you.

Felt like you got a scare or two. Really good chance from Hojlund just past the post. Huge chance from Casemiro which he ballooned. From that point it felt like you backed off and were a bit naive. Big chances again for Yoro and Maguire hitting the post obviously.

If one or two of those chances go in, it might have changed the game and you might have found yourself in bother when you had no need to be.

Either way the better team won. Comfortably the better team. But that lack of killer instinct could haunt you against better teams.

Without any recent poor results to fuel their arguments this

group of belligerent northern magpies, or geordius hornius

in Latin, will resort to quarreling over less satisfying fare.

I think you are spot on with your observations.  We miss so many chances (easy ones at that).  Thanks also for being honest and just being you really.  You're a good egg.

Just watched the highlights back,Why was Isaks 2nd goal ruled out? Schar was onside and the deflection came off one of them straight into Isak

Have the rules changed again

He was offside from the shot that got deflected.

Because Schar was shooting and the Man Utd player blocked it to Isak, who was offside. Had Schar attempted to dribble past the Man Utd player and he’d tackled him resulting in the ball going to Isak, that would have stood (I think).

It's only not offside if it's a deliberate play, for instance a misplaced pass or slice. In this case it seems a genuine deflection so not a deliberate play and therefore offside.

This part of the Offside Law (Law 11) has really always been the same. It's not changed.

Effectively, if the attacker is an offside position, and the defender:

+ Passes the ball to a team-mate;

+ Gains possession of the ball; or

+ Clears the ball (e.g. by kicking or heading it)

Then the attacker is not offside.

The defender in this specific situation did not go to clear the ball, pass the ball (and misjudge it or slice it etc), or gain possession.

He blocked the ball. That's viewed in the same way as a goalkeeper save (you'd be offside as an attacker).
