Very similar circumstances to myself. After 29 years I gave my ST up when we failed to keep Rafa. On a deal also. Loyalty pts wiped. Expected 10s of thousands staying away and doing the same but nowhere near as many did in reality. Wondered why I'd bothered and felt let down by our fan base.  Still do if I'm honest. After missing it and thinking my staying away was futile I gambled on going back. After all I could walk away if nowt changed. I can understand why people persevered. It's hard to stop doing what you've enjoyed doing all your life. Some worried about the loyalty point aspect but those who walked away did so to improve the club. So that there would be cup finals as there is now. Only thing is the ones who tried to make a difference are now missing out and have people like Magdad mocking them, along with the disabled. Out of order Magdad. We all have opinions but shouldn't resort to personal insults.

I walked away after Rafa left leaving 175 loyalty points behind. Could no longer endorse what the club had become and all my attempts to make a change went nowhere (often facing resistance from the 'support the team not the regime' lot). It was the only stand I could make and I was glad I did it. Fortunately got a season ticket when they held a small ballot for them in the first summer after the takeover but still feel a part of my connection with the club has been lost (likely forever) when i made that decision to walk.

This is pretty much me. Me, dad & brother gave up ST and almost 500pts between us. I’ve been fortunate enough to get one back since, but it doesn’t feel the same for some reason. Still get up and down when we win/lose, but something doesn’t feel right. Maybe just still in shock that we’re competitive tbh

fucking hell man.

thank you so much.

I really wasn't having a go at you huss9. Each to their own. As I say I can understand people staying. Ashley was still in charge when I went back so I could be criticised for that. I just feel a mass exodus might have hastened his departure.

I’m genuinely surprised anyone actually believed a mass exodus or mass cancelling of season tickets was ever going to happen. I can understand cancelling because you’d had enough but it happening on mass was never realistic.

A boycott and a mass walkout both failed to get even quadruple figures nevermind actually cancelling a season ticket

Can confirm that the club have been ringing people and offering final tickets. Mate got a pair for him and his son yesterday evening.

Make sure your ringer is on and you answer withheld numbers for a few days!

Well the strength of feeling seemed strong among the fan base when Rafa went but aye, it was all talk. Our fans don't do protest very well. Few banners outside sports direct etc. Blackpool did it properly when they wanted rid of Oyston. Crowds went down to sub 1k I'm sure and protests were regular outside Bloomfield Road during games.

As I recall, a minority of fans boycotted and protested to try and put pressure on Mike Ashley's ownership. They were largely sneered at and abused by others who were unwilling to sacrifice their ability to groan, sigh and generally get stuck into the lads every Saturday.

They were told to shut up and support tha team. Didn’t do much good.

Hypothetically, if you were offered the chance for this match to just go straight to penalties and not play the rest of the game ,would you take it?

On my death bed I think my biggest regret in life will be not taking one of those.

They had zero bearing on the availability of season tickets in the next season they were available. Iirc you weren't eligible for renewal, just had to get one in general sale. Plus I think there was only a couple games between them coming in and lockdown.

i walked out.

i boycotted - with my little'n who was just 6 but i had to explain why.

i helped hand out sackpardew and ashleyout leaflets outside the ground and got abused whilst doing it.

i had to move my seat as was getting too much abuse from some older gadgies where i used to sit because of my anti ashley heckling and chanting - "you're not a true supporter".

I have no idea what I'd do with myself, its uncharted territory.

I'd have not been able to sleep for weeks if we were playing Spurs in the final, at least I'm going with no expectations in this case

A penalty shootout in the final would decimate our population
